Sweeney, who hit .254 with 42 homers and 250 RBI in his 14-year career, will join Joe Torre's coaching staff with the Dodgers. He will go down as one of the most prolific pinch hitters in history, ranking second in pinch-hits (175) and first in pinch-hit RBI (102).

In what has to be a testament to his great clubhouse presence, Sweeney managed to stay on the 25-man roster the entire season despite batting just .130/.250/.163 in 92 at-bats, mostly in a pinch-hitting role. It's hard to see anyone wanting the 39-year-old next year, and even if he does manage to land a job, his impact will be minimal, and that's being generous.
Sweeney finished his two-year contract in 2007, batting .260/.350/.382 between the Dodgers and Giants. At age 38, his career is winding down, but there's probably room on some club for a left-handed pinch-hitter who can still hit in the .260s and draw a few walks.
Sweeney saw his OPS fall more than 150 points from his previous two seasons last year, when he finished with a poor .251/.330/.382 line. He'll be a backup at first base for San Francisco this season and should be used strictly against righties.
At 36, Sweeney surprised by reaching more than 200 at bats for the first time in his career, and still hit .294 in a pitcher-friendly park. It's hard to think he'll get that kind of opportunity again with the Giants or be able to stay healthy for that long, but he's proven he can still hit in the right situations.
Sweeney has never had more than 200 AB in a season and his departure from Colorado to a pinch-hitting role in a less hitter-friendly home park will ensure that he once again will have little fantasy value in 2005.
Sweeney is a pinch-hitter with a little bit of pop and even less speed. He rebounded nicely last season in terms of average, but looks to be on the downside of his career. He can still pinch-hit, but he doesn't have a big enough bat to play the field on a regular basis.
A quality pinch-hitter who has bounced around a number of organizations over the last few years. Nominally, Sweeney can play outfield or first base, but for the most part he's been pigeon-holed as a pinch-hitter. He might be a better fit in the AL, where the DH is an option.
