Past Fantasy Outlooks
2004
2003
Burkett hinted at retiring, but nothing is official at this point. Boston will look for a starter in the offseason, and won't considering re-signing Burkett until they have exhausted several other options.
Burkett, 38, had a decent first half in 2002, despite getting lit up with a .294 batting average against. He ranked eighth in the league with a 6.45 run support. Things finally caught up with him the second half (5.24 ERA), and Burkett finished 13-8 with a 4.53 ERA. He'll compete for the fifth spot in the rotation, but as we saw last season, he needs run support to be effective.
