Cormier has informed the Braves that he's retiring from baseball, the Braves' Official Site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Braves will have to look somewhere else in their system if they need to add a left-hander to their bullpen mix. The 40-year-old Cormier played 16 seasons in the majors and posted a 4.03 career ERA.

Cormier gave up 22 baserunners, plus three homers, in the 14 innings he pitched after coming over in a midseason trade from the Phillies. For that, the Reds had to pay the low, low price of guaranteeing his 2007 option and granting a club option for 2008. While his ERA with the Phillies was low, his 13:13 K:BB portended ill fortunes.
Cormier was by and large ineffective in 2005, plagued by the home-run ball, injuries and big innings. The Phillies demoted him from his set-up role during the year and likely won't give it back without a big rebound.
The soft-tossing veteran lefty had another good year in 2004 and his career is coming in for a smooth landing after a rocky takeoff. Cormier briefly considered retirement before re-signing for two more years; he is a decent roster endgame.
Cormier was arguably the Phils' best reliever in 2003, with an 8-0 mark and a 1.70 ERA. Opposing batters hit only .182 against him. He and Tim Worrell will be the Phillies' top set-up men in 2004.
Cormier will be around in 2003 because his contract is guaranteed. Shoulder tendinitis finished his season in mid-September after a season that saw his ERA never dip below 5.00.
