Halter signed a minor league deal with the Cubs, the Daily Southtown reports.
ANALYSIS
Halter oozes that sort of "proven veteran-ness" that Dusty Baker loves. Don't be surprised if he gets a quick callup to replace Ronny Cedeno.

The Shane Halter experiment in Anaheim is thankfully over. He doesn't hit much, can't run well and is an average fielder at best. In the end, he's nothing more than a utility guy, and at 35, he won't get many opportunities to be a fantasy contributor.
Halter showed poor plate discipline and batting average. His 12 homers aren't enough to have him on any draft list. A long shot to make a major league club next season.
Though Halter only lost two home runs from his surprising 2001 breakthrough, his slugging numbers dropped significantly and he lost 45 points in average. Most importantly, he also lost the starting job at shortstop, though he managed to pick up enough at-bats at third base to still be considered a regular player. He'll be lucky to get 300 at-bats this year, as the Tigers no longer see him as someone good enough to play every day. That established, he's not a bad $1 idea for the endgame if all you're looking for are 6-8 homers and a fair average.
