Past Fantasy Outlooks

2003
Strickland is still on the mend from June 2003 Tommy John surgery. He missed all of 2004 and spent most of 2005 and 2006 in the minors. Last season, he showed that he still has some pop in his 30-year-old arm, with 70 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings at Triple-A Indianapolis. Strickland went 5-2 with a 2.09 ERA in 2006 and is expected to pitch in middle relief for the Padres in 2007. Look for him to see action in the fifth through seventh innings.
Still working his way back from elbow surgery, Strickland got in his first MLB work since early 2003, but what was most encouraging was his 19 innings for Round Rock. He could be a pleasant surprise in '06, eating up right-handers and getting groundballs. Sleeper in the Pirates' pen.
Strickland is expected to be ready for the 2005 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2003. If healthy, he should be a key member of the Mets bullpen, possibly as the main righty set-up man in front of Braden Looper.
Strickland tried to pitch through a slight groin strain and in the process severely altered his motion, resulting in a 50% tear in his pitching elbow. He underwent Tommy John ligament-replacement surgery in June 2003 that will sideline him until the 2005 season.
If the Mets move Armando Benitez, he could be next in line to close for the Mets. His 2001 and 2002 season were remarkably similar, differing just a little on workload and situational usage.
