Hendrickson is out of options with the Brewers and may be out of chances as well. The 26 year old has never found any success at the major league level while always pitching well in the minors. Last season he went 9-8 with a 3.36 ERA for Triple-A Nashville while posting a 12.00 ERA in 12 innings in Milwaukee. The Brewers will have to put him on their Opening Day roster if they want to keep him, so look for a trade this spring.
Hendrickson took a step back in 2005, turning in the worst minor league season of his career for Triple-A Nashville. His overall numbers, however, belie a slight improvement in the second half. The Brewers will give him a look in spring training, but the door is closing on the 25-year-old.
Hendrickson has always been phenomenal as a minor league pitcher but struggled after his promotion to the majors. He was named the 2004 International League Pitcher of the Year and will start the 2005 season in the Milwaukee rotation. Hendrickson doesn't throw hard at all and gets by with location and a great curve. This has some scouts doubting whether he can be successful at the major league level.
Hendrickson was named the Brewers 2002 Minor League Pitcher of the Year but was too injured last season to build on that. He was hit with a forearm injury early in 2003 and never fully recovered. He did go 0-1 with a 2.03 ERA in the Arizona Fall League, which might be enough to get him a shot at the Brewers' starting rotation this spring. He doesn't throw hard but uses his control and a great curveball to keep hitters off balance. Watch him in spring training, but he could be a sleeper pick this season.
