Despite the 13-7 record, Phillips took a step back at Triple-A after coming off his best season-to-date. He's got mediocre stuff and certainly didn't fool many hitters at Triple-A, allowing 198 hits and 56 walks in 173.2 innings. He's left-handed but hasn't shown an ability to handle them in the minors so he's ill-equipped for a relief role as well. Until he has more success at Triple-A there's no reason to think he'll be anything more than a No. 5 starter at his peak. With the Yankees, he'll need to earn a bullpen spot during spring training to avoid landing in the Triple-A rotation.
