A lack of maturity landed Dominguez in Buck Showalter's doghouse on multiple occasions in 2005, but he was solid as a starter once he moved into the rotation for good in August. Toss out two appearances in which he gave up nine runs in just 2/3 of an inning and he'd have posted a 3.10 ERA over 69 2/3 innings. His strikeout numbers were lower than expected, however, including more than five strikeouts in just two appearances all year. There's a lot of upside if he cracks the rotation and owners have the bench spots to sit him during long homestands.
Dominguez showed some real promise during a four-start audition before neck, back and knee woes effectively ended his season in June. His numbers in nine starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City showed promise as well and he'll compete for a rotation spot for 2005.
Dominguez rocketed through three levels of the minors and made his major-league debut, all at the age of 21. Or 23, as it turns out, when a birth certificate issue became cleared up. His breaking pitches need a lot of work, and he could use a few more months at Triple-A. Dominguez is as exciting a pitching prospect that Texas has, but given its history of developing pitching, an exciting Rangers pitching prospect is akin to a "really good episode of Becker."
Rocketed through three levels of the minors in 2003 before being called up by Texas in August. There are concerns regarding his workload, so Texas will tread carefully here.
