Past Fantasy Outlooks

2007
If he didn't get a chance in the season Todd Helton missed half of, it seems unlikely that he has a future with the Rockies. Koshansky could be a 25-homer guy without much else to sell if given the chance, a bit like Paul Sorrento was a decade ago.
Koshansky had another fine year at Triple-A in 2007, showing good power and the ability to drive in runs. He strikes out a lot (128 in 136 Triple-A games), but compensates for that by getting on base at a good rate. He's stuck behind Todd Helton and will likely start the year at Triple-A and won't have much of a major league impact without a trade.
Despite skipping high-A entirely, Koshansky continued to hit minor league pitching hard, posting his second consecutive 30-100 season while playing the entire year in Double-A. His power potential is huge. Even though he has a long swing, Koshansky also has the ability to lay off bad pitches. His future in Colorado is up in the air because the incumbent, Todd Helton, has five years and $90 million remaining on his contract. Plus, Koshansky is a big, lumbering guy in the field, limiting him to first base. He hit just .214/.301/.325 versus lefties, a problem he'll work on in Triple-A to open the year.
