Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Season Finale

Weekly Pitcher Rankings: Season Finale

This article is part of our Weekly Pitcher Rankings series.

Quick hits for the week:

I debated whether it made more sense to do a 10-day value meter last week, stick with the normal 7-day schedule or perhaps do both. What say you readers? Which would you prefer next year should the year-end schedule lay out similarly?

This week, we're going with a bit of a bare-bones edition. Not as heavy on the player notes, and with the caveat that these matchups are far from set in stone, as teams continue to juggle their playoff rosters and non-contenders debate whether to look at younger talent. For instance, we could see Tommy Hanson instead of Tim Hudson for the season finale, particularly if the Braves have clinched or been eliminated. David Price is also slated to go in the finale, but that might depend on the next few games. You get the point.

Anyone catch Matt Moore's first big league start? OK, so it was against a Yankees lineup missing Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Alex Rodriguez, but five innings of shutout ball with 11 strikeouts is pretty spectacular regardless. Just ask Derek Jeter who fanned in his only two at-bats against Moore. He has to have have a rotation spot next year.

I'm not sure why the Nationals are giving Stephen Strasburg one more start, particularly on the road (Florida) where they won't be able to rake in the revenue that Strasburg generates. Oh well, at least the Marlins will get to play in front of more

Cy Young contenders Clayton Kershaw and Roy Halladay are on the road for their final starts; Kershaw Sunday in San Diego and Halladay that same day in New York. Given the venue, you have to like Kershaw's chances of wrapping up the award this weekend.
