Closer Watch

Arizona - The Diamondbacks turned to Bryan Shaw for the second Sunday in a row. Last week it was because both J.J. Putz and David Hernandez had been used on Friday and Saturday. This week, they were both used on Saturday, but not on Friday. Hernandez allowed one run and Putz allowed a walk-off two-run homer to Todd Helton that earned him a blown save and a loss. It is not believed that Putz's job is in jeopardy at this point, but it was interesting to see the D'Back turn to Shaw in this situation.

Boston - It was a rough start to the year for Alfredo Aceves. Things seem to have calmed down now, as Aceves converted his second save on Sunday. Consider this a positive sign that he will be able to hold down the job after all.

San Francisco - There was no save situation Sunday, so we don't know who is the favorite to earn closing duties between Santiago Casilla, Sergio Romo, or Javier Lopez.

Recommended Pickup

Danny Duffy, P, KC - Duffy shined in his 2012 debut, allowing just one hit in six innings with eight strikeouts and four walks. He had a rough introduction to MLB in 2011, but the Royals gave him a chance to start for most of the season. His numbers in the minor leagues - particularly his walk ratio - suggests he will do much better in 2012. This is a two start week for Duffy, as weekly lineups will get home starts against the Tigers and the Blue Jays.

Other Recent Recommendations: Santiago Casilla, Tom Milone, Jose Altuve, Zack Cozart
