Closer Watch
Pirates -- Joel Hanrahan has been terrific this year for the Pirates, so after getting the save Friday and Saturday against Detroit, one would speculate that their ninth inning man will have the day off on Sunday. If the situation is right, a guy like Chris Resop, Jason Grilli, or Juan Cruz may find themselves picking up a rare save opportunity in the series ending game Sunday.

Phillies -- With a two run lead to preserve, Jonathan Papelbon was not able to hold onto the lead against the Rays on Saturday. This has been Papelbon's second consecutive appearance where he has given up a run, no one should be considered seeing as how the Phillies front office dished out a lot of money to have Papelbon be their closer. It should be noted though that Papelbon has gone cold in the past, so make sure to stay on top of the Phillies closer situation as it may start heating up.

Twins -- Glen Perkins got his second save of the season Friday even though regular closer Matt Capps was available to pitch out of the bullpen. Capps normal setup man looked a little shaky, but still was able to preserve the Twins one-run lead over the Reds on Friday. It would seem that it is about time that Capps will return to his role as the regular ninth-inning man soon, though the Twins management seem to want to rest him for as long as possible.

Diamondbacks -- David Hernandez stepped into Friday's game with the bases loaded, four outs to go, a five run lead, and he stepped out with an odd save. JJ Putz is the Diamondbacks normal closer, so the Hernandez save at the moment can be amounted to the large lead and should just be considered something that happens on the regular, until something happens to the veteran Putz.

Angels -- Sporting an ERA and WHIP under one in 32 games so far this season, Ernesto Frieri has been one of the most unhittable pitchers in the majors. It is no wonder that the Angels are using their Colombian righty in the ninth inning to close out their games. It has been over three weeks since Frieri has taken over the full-time closers position, and he has been lights out, so it does not seem like he is going to give it back anytime soon.

Recommended Pickup

Other Recent Recommendations:
Pedro Alvarez, 3B, PIT -- The former second overall pick in the 2008 draft has had a terrible 2012 season up until the past week, where from Saturday, June 16, to Saturday, June 23, Alvarez has hit a phenomenal 11-22, including nine runs, five home runs, and 10 RBIs (with six in one game). The Pirates third baseman should be available on the waiver wire in just about every fantasy baseball formatted league, so if your team has someone struggling in a starting position where Alvarez is eligible, why not give him a shot before this hot streak ends?
