Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (check out our Closer Grid with the link to the left).

Miami – Steve Cishek has done his job without incident since inheriting the closer's role. He allowed two runs Saturday, but successfully nailed down the save.

New York Mets – It seems bizarre to put this sentence together, but Frank Francisco pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get Saturday's save. Smooth saves have eluded Francisco, but he still has the job for the Mets despite a ballooned ERA and WHIP.

San Francisco – The Giants are going with a closer by committee approach and used Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo in the seventh and eighth innings. Jeremy Affeldt came on for the ninth and allowed two runs before Clay Hensley retired the last batter of the game to earn his third save.

Recommended Pickup

Hisashi Iwakuma, P, SEA – After a month and a half in the Mariners rotation, Iwakuma has provided some serviceable numbers. Not surprisingly, he is particularly useful at home where he has allowed two earned runs in his last 20 innings. However, long balls could be his undoing, as Iwakuma has allowed 13 home runs in 78.1 innings on the season. That is surprising considering his home park.

Other Recent Recommendations: Samuel Deduno, Gregor Blanco, Jon Jay, Yonder Alonso, Eric Young, Jr.
