Closer Watch

Giants - Sergio Romo closed out a 7-6 win over the Cubs on Thursday to pick up his MLB-leading sixth save of the young season. The right-hander has not allowed a walk and has given up just two hits while recording 10 strikeouts over 6.0 innings thus far in 2013. He continues to display pinpoint control, and as long as Romo stays healthy, he should remain one of the top end-game options in all of baseball.

Red Sox - On Wednesday, Joel Hanrahan surrendered five earned runs on three hits and two walks against Baltimore en route to his first blown save of the season. After the game, manager John Farrell suggested the right-hander is still progressing along the learning curve that comes with his move to the AL-East, and confirmed that Hanrahan will remain the closer. However, a few more poor outings for Hanrahan in the near future could lead Farrell to consider Andrew Bailey, Junichi Tazawa or Koji Uehara for ninth-inning duties, though Farrell seems to like using Uehara first out of the bullpen.

Recommended Pickup

Evan Gattis, C, ATL - Gattis has caught the team's last four games, so a day off Friday seems like a good possibility, but the 26-year-old appears primed to be a valuable fantasy contributor, at least while Brian McCann (shoulder) remains out. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Gattis, who's 9-for-23 with three homers and six RBI so far this year, will get the bulk of the starts behind the dish for the time being, and will continue to bat cleanup until Freddie Freeman (oblique) returns. He should have plenty of opportunities to drive in runs, and if he continues his hot hitting, the Braves may very well opt to keep Gattis on the big club all season.
