FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

FanDuel MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Hisashi Iwakuma, $8,300 - It's not a stretch to recommend the fifth-highest priced pitcher on the board but there are only eight games on the Monday night slate limiting your options to only 16 pitchers. Iwakuma looked much better in his last start and gets the benefit of pitching in Seattle. He will welcome the Houston Astros Monday night and more importantly their penchant to strike out a lot. The matchup and home park set a nice floor for Iwakuma who should be a decent favorite as well.

Catcher

Derek Norris, $2,800 - Norris' move to Petco Park isn't going to help him from a batting standpoint but luckily he'll be in Coors Field Monday to open up a series with the Rockies. There will be many owners rostering the Padres Monday and Norris is one of the better values considering his price. Another factor working in his favor will be his matchup with Jorge De La Rosa, who is a southpaw. Last season Norris was considerably better against left-handed pitching posting an OPS of .863.

First Base

Kennys Vargas, $2400 - There aren't too many players as big as Vargas who checks in at 6-foot-5, 280. He has a ton of power and hit his first home run of the season Thursday against the same team he plays Monday, the Royals. He'll face Edinson Volquez, who has given 36 home runs the last two seasons. It also helps that Vargas should have opportunity to rack up some RBI as he's been hitting in the cleanup spot for the Twins.

Second Base

Jedd Gyorko, $2,700 - Going back to the Padres well, it's not a bad idea to run a mini-stack against De La Rosa, who is making his first start and coming off the DL. Gyorko is another player who will have the favorable right-handed bat vs. left-handed pitching and has gone 10-for-15 against De La Rosa for his career. He's a great target in both cash and GPPs.

Third Base

Trevor Plouffe, $2,500 - Plouffe is one of the streakier hitters in the Twins' lineup and appears to be in the middle of a hot streak. Plouffe has two home runs in his last five games and has scored five or more fantasy points in three of his last five contests. Again, the matchup against Edison Volquez is in Plouffe's favor, and it wouldn't be a shocker to see him hit his third long ball of the season Monday night.

Shortstop

Jose Iglesias, $2900 - The player mainly known for his defense appears to be taking the next step offensively and is off to a hot start. Iglesias finished Sunday's game going 1-for-4, lowering his batting average to .436. He's scored positive points in the FanDuel system in six straight games, has two stolen bases and three doubles over that span, as well. He's another player who bats right-handed facing a lefty.

Outfield

Melky Cabrera, $2,700 - This price seems too low for a player of Cabrera's caliber, and he has a nice home matchup going Monday night. Cabrera will be up against Trevor Bauer and enters the game with a 6-for-9 mark over his last two contests. He's probably the best option at this price in the outfield.

Dustin Ackley, $2,800 - Ackley has gotten off to a nice start this season, and the Mariners are using him in a strict platoon, helping his stats. Ackley has sat against left-handed pitching and held only a .553 OPS against southpaws last season. Monday night he'll get a right-handed pitcher in rookie Asher Wojciechowski and look to build on the three home runs he already has this season.

Jerry Sands, $2,200 - While he's been in and out of the lineup this season, lefty-killer Sands should be in the lineup Monday night with the Tribe facing southpaw John Danks. Sands has hits in all four games he's appeared in and has gone 6-for-12 vs. left-handed pitching this season. At the minimum price on FanDuel, he's an excellent punt option if you're looking to spend your budget elsewhere.
