FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitchers

Masahiro Tanaka, $9,600 - He's the third-highest priced pitcher on tonight's slate but he's worth the expense. Tanaka gets a plus matchup against the Marlins, a team that is 29th in the league for OPS (.663) against right-handed pitching. Miami has the eighth most strikeouts (383) in the league and Tanaka should be good for 5-plus strikeouts tonight. The Yankees are a nice road favorite (-153) and the over/under of seven suggests a low-scoring game.

Catcher

Travis d'Arnaud, $3,000 - D'Arnaud has hit the ground running since returning from the DL and is coming off of a monster game yesterday. He went 1-for-4 but the one hit was a home run and he walked and scored another run for a nice 8.25 fantasy point day. Tonight he gets Mark Buehrle and the Mets used him in the cleanup spot yesterday, a move that may stick going forward.

First Base

David Ortiz, $2,500 - Ortiz will likely be the most-owned first baseman today given his price and his recent surge at the plate. He's homered in three of his last four games and has at least 5.25 fantasy points in each of those games. Tonight he gets a good home matchup against Williams Perez. Perez's 1.44 WHIP doesn't match his 2.70 ERA suggesting that some correction in the ERA should occur in the not-to-distant future. Ortiz is almost a must-play in any type of cash game tonight.

Second Base

Jimmy Paredes, $2,500 - Paredes has struggled recently after a blazing start and as a result his price has plummeted to its current level. His batting average is still over .300 on the season (.353 over the last week) and his splits this season show he's hitting right-handed pitching better than southpaws. Tonight's matchup at home is a good one as Paredes and the Orioles draw Aaron Harang. Harang has lost four games in a row and has given up 12 earned runs over his last two starts 11.2 innings).

Third Base

Joey Gallo, $3,200 - Gallo homered in each game over the weekend with his Saturday bomb going an estimated 471 feet. The weather has finally heated up in Arlington and the ball should continue to fly out of the park on a regular basis. Gallo is always a power threat but a surprising skill that he possesses is his speed. Gallo has swiped two bases already adding to his fantasy value. Tonight he faces Carlos Frias, a pitcher who has gotten beat up by lefties to the tune of a .902 OPS.

Shortstop

Jhonny Peralta, $3,800 - There are very limited options at this position tonight so it makes sense to pay up for one of the elite option. Jose Reyes and Troy Tuzlowitzkiboth draw tough road matchups while Peralta gets to stay home and go against Trevor May. Peralta already has 10 home runs and his batting average sits at a lofty .317. Look for him to be in his usual cleanup spot tonight and hopefully take advantage of his home matchup.

Outfield

Joey Butler, $3,100 - Fun Fact: Butler and manager Kevin Cash were teammates a few years ago when they played together at Triple-A Round Rock. Cash has made Butler a regular in the lineup and had him hitting in the two hole Sunday against Chris Sale. The Rays go up against another southpaw tonight, facing the National's Gio Gonzalez. Gio isn't nearly the talented pitcher that Sale is and Butler (over 49 ABs) has a .931 OPS against left-handed pitching this season.

Nolan Reimold, $2,400 - Reimold has reached base safely in all five games since rejoining the big club and has two homers over that time span as well. As previously mentioned, he gets a good home matchup against Aaron Harang and Vegas has the Orioled projected to score around 4-5 runs. Look for Reimold to stay hot at the plate against the Phillies tonight.

John Mayberry, $2,400 - On most night Mayberry is relegated to pinch-hitting duty but he's a regular in the lineup whenever the Mets face a lefty. That'll happen tonight against Mark Buehrle and Mayberry has a good track record this season against southpaws. He lit up Alex Wood Friday night and before that crushed Robbie Ray in Arizona. The only risk here is if Buehrle gets lifted early the Mets could bring in a right-handed batter to replace Mayberry. Still, he makes a nice punt play for GPPs tonight.
