FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Welcome to another edition of the FanDuel value plays for Wednesday, September 9. We've got 14 games on the slate tonight with all sorts of different options to choose from. With just three weeks remaining in the regular season, divisional races are starting to heat up as teams make their final playoff pushes. As usual, be sure to keep an eye on any last-minute lineup changes and check in on any players who are dealing with minor injuries. Good Luck!

Starting Pitcher:
Collin McHugh, $9,000
- McHugh was brilliant on Friday when he tossed 7.2 scoreless innings against the Twins while walking one and striking out six. He's won his last two starts and currently holds a 15-7 record on the year. McHugh last pitched in Oakland a month ago when he gave up just five hits across six innings while walking three and striking out eight. The Astros hold a slim lead over the Rangers for the AL West title and should have a good shot to beat an Oakland team that currently holds the worst record in the American League. I also like Chris Heston at $6,700 if you're in need of a cheaper option.

Catcher:
Jonathan Lucroy, $3,500
- Lucroy has recorded 23 hits in his last 14 games with three home runs and 14 RBI. In that 14 game stretch, he's raised his batting average 22 points to .263. The Brewers get a matchup against Tom Koehler and the Marlins tonight in Miami. Koehler is 0-6 in his last seven starts with a 6.13 ERA. Lucroy should have a great opportunity to continue his hot-streak. Another solid play tonight would be Derek Norris at $2,800.

First Base:
Freddie Freeman, $3,700
- Freeman got off to a rough start this season but he's rebounded nicely since the All-Star break. The franchise first baseman has recorded an RBI in eight of his last 10 games. He's only tallied 353 at-bats due to a few minor injuries throughout the year, but he still sits on 16 home runs and 52 RBI to go along with a .283 average. Freeman is one of the best hitters in the league at his position, and he'll have a juicy matchup tonight against David Buchanan of the Phillies. The young right-hander enters with a 9.00 ERA in 10 starts with a 1.96 WHIP. Freeman is hitting .300 against righties on the year with 15 of his 16 home runs, and he'll be playing in a very hitter-friendly park in Philadelphia.

Second Base:
Jason Kipnis, $3,100
- Kipnis is one of the better all-around second baseman in the league, and he's closing on another impressive season in 2015. The 28-year holds a .310 average with 45 RBI and 77 runs scored to go along with a respectable seven home runs and 11 stolen bags. He's struggled over his last few games which would explain why his price tag has come down, but it's time to take advantage of that. Kipnis is batting .346 against right-handers this season and he should like his matchup tonight against Jeff Samardzija who enters with a 4.87 ERA from the right-side. I also like Dee Gordon at $3,400.

Third Base:
Todd Frazier, $2,200
- Despite a tough second half of the season, Frazier is still having the best year of his career. The 29-year old third baseman has hit 13 long balls in just 134 at-bats against left-handed pitching this year, and he'll see J.A. Happ of the Pirates tonight who enters with a 3.90 ERA from the left-side. Frazier has more hits and home runs against the Pirates than any other team in the league, and he'll be hitting at home in a very hitter-friendly park tonight. With such a low price tag, it's hard to pass up on a guy who can put up the time up numbers that Frazier can. Alex Rodriguez ($3,500) would be another solid option, as he's been on an absolute tear as of late.

Shortstop:
Jean Segura, $2,800
- Segura has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, including six multi-hit games. The 25-year old shortstop can certainly help you in the steals category (22) and he comes with a very reasonable price tag when you consider how hot he's been at the plate over the last two weeks. Segura gets the same matchup against Tom Koehler of the Marlins who enters with a 6.13 ERA over his last seven starts.

Outfield:
Michael Brantley, $3,900
- Brantley is the second left-handed hitter on the Cleveland roster that I like tonight in a matchup against a struggling Jeff Samardzija. The five-tool outfielder hit his 13th home run of the season last night and he's now hit safely in four of his last five games. Brantley has the ability to help you in all five categories and he's one of the more consistent hitters in the game.

J.D. Martinez, $3,400 - Martinez is having one of the better all-around seasons in the league in 2015 and he's shown no signs of slowing down. He's hit two home runs in his last four games which brings him to a total of 36 on the year (5th most in the league). Martinez is batting .290 with 28 of those 36 home runs against right-handed pitching, and he'll see right-hander Jake Odorizzi of the Rays tonight at home.

Avisail Garcia, $2,900 - Garcia has been a pleasant surprise for the White Sox this season and he's been on a roll over the last couple of weeks. He's hit safely in eight of his last 10 games with 13 hits and seven RBI. 10 of his 12 home runs on the year have come against right-handed pitching and he'll see right-hander Josh Tomlin of the Indians tonight.
Other Notable Outfielders:

Andrew McCutchen, $4,700
Kole Calhoun, $3,300
Jacoby Ellsbury, $2,900
