FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Ross Stripling, LOS at ATL ($7,600) - Stripling has impressed in his first two starts, and now gets a matchup against a questionable offense in a pitcher's park, with a vulnerable pitcher opposing him. Stripling has generated a stellar 2.03 ERA over 13.1 innings, totaling 31 and 27 fantasy points in those games. The Braves have shown signs of life in recent games, but they are still third-worst in the majors with a .215 team batting average and last with just three homers this season. With the top-tier arms on the slate having some early season warts, Stripling makes for a potentially rewarding pivot.

CATCHER

Jarrod Saltalamacchia, DET at KAN (2,900) - The switch-hitting catcher's bat has been on fire, and he's gone for double-digit fantasy points in four of his last five games while also homering in three straight. He owns a .339 wOBA and .201 ISO versus right-handed pitching lifetime when hitting from the left side of the plate, and is off to an unbelievable start against them this season. Salty has amassed a .610 wOBA, .667 ISO and 53.9 percent hard contact rate against righties, along with four homers. Ian Kennedy has been outstanding through his first two starts with Kansas City, but is still the pitcher who gave up 31 homers last season with the Padres and more than 25 in three of the previous five seasons, as well. He gave up a .356 wOBA and 18 homers to left-handed hitting last season, and it wouldn't be that surprising to see him begin regress toward the mean sooner than later.

FIRST BASE

Byung-ho Park, MIN at MIL ($3,000) - The Korean slugger seems to be acclimating to the majors just fine after a slow start, totaling double-digit fantasy points in four of his last five games. He's also homered in two straight and draws a quality but homer prone pitcher in Jimmy Nelson in a hitter-friendly park. Park has hit all four homers against righties with a .416 wOBA and outrageous .368 ISO over a 43-plate appearance sample. Meanwhile, though he's pitched well this season, Nelson has already surrendered four homers in 19.1 innings, issuing nine free passes over that span.

SECOND BASE

Neil Walker, NYM at PHI ($2,900) - We'll stay with another hot bat in Walker, who's blasted five homers in his last four games, including two in Monday night's blowout win. He's scored 18 to 36 fantasy points over those four contests, and faces the long-ball prone Jeremy Hellickson. While he's pitched well in a limited sample against lefties this season, Hellickson surrendered a .339 wOBA to southpaws last season and a .318 wOBA and 54 homers to them in his career. Walker has hit his homers from the right side of the plate this season but has historically performed better from the left. He tallied a .340 wOBA and .180 ISO from that side last season, with all 16 of his homers. Those first two metrics go up to .347 and .183, respectively, when looking at his career numbers, as he's smashed 90 of his 99 homers from that side of the plate as well.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LOS at ATL ($2,900) - To say that Turner decimates right-handed pitching is a considerable understatement. He tallied a .390 wOBA, .210 ISO, 11 homers and 33.5 percent hard contact rate against that handedness last season and has a career .350 wOBA and .142 ISO with 22 homers against righties. Julio Teheran gave up 22 to 27 homers the last three seasons, already yielding four in his first 17 innings in 2016. Turner is still looking for his first long ball of the season, and could find a willing facilitator in Teheran, who's given up 29 dingers to right-handed hitters over his career.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LOS at ATL ($3,400) - We'll stay with the Dodgers and a player who's also done some damage against righties over his brief career. Seager amassed a .437 wOBA and .259 ISO over 66 plate appearances against right-handed pitching last season. Teheran was lambasted by left-handed batters to the tune of a .386 wOBA and 18 homers in 2015, and they've touched him up for a .472 wOBA and three homers already in 2016 over a 33-batter sample. He's been even worse against them in the normally pitcher-friendly Turner Field, where he's yielded a .549 wOBA over a 21-batter sample.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Moreland, TEX vs. HOU ($3,100) - Moreland takes aim at right-hander Doug Fister, who left-handed hitters have touched up for a .560 wOBA and two homers this season in a 19-batter sample. Although he's generated a respectable .308 wOBA against them over the course of his career, they've also been responsible for 61 of the 98 career homers he's given up. Moreland has hit both of his 2016 homers against righties, and has historically hit them very well. He generated a .372 wOBA and 18 of his homers in 2015 against them, and a .342 wOBA and 78 homers against them lifetime. To top it off, he's hot at the moment, posting four consecutive double-digit fantasy point efforts, and two homers over that span as well.

Jayson Werth, WAS at MIA ($2,900) - Werth is starting to climb out of some early season doldrums and faces the homer-prone Wei-Yin Chen. Werth totaled more than 20 fantasy points in three of his last six games and owns a career .396 wOBA and .242 ISO versus southpaws. Meanwhile, Chen was generous last season to righties, who posted a .348 wOBA and 25 homers against him. It doesn't get much better when looking at his career numbers, during which he's given up a .334 wOBA and 80 of his 98 career homers to right-handers.

Billy Burns, OAK at NYY ($2,600) - The switch-hitting Burns could be in line for some production against Nathan Eovaldi, who's been dreadful in 2016. Eovaldi has a .459 wOBA against lefties and .381 wOBA against righties over 11.2 innings this season. In his career, he's allowed a .341 wOBA to left-handed batters. He's also experienced an abundance of control issues throughout his minor and major league tenures, and Burns can do some damage on the basepaths should he get on.
