DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Adam Wainwright, STL at SD ($9,700): Wainwright's performance has been trending in the wrong direction, but a trip to pitcher-friendly Petco Park to face the anemic Padres offense could be just what the doctor ordered. San Diego batters strike out at the fourth-highest rate in baseball at 9.5 times per game, which should help Wainwright raise his K/9 back up closer to his career 7.56 mark. Some owners may be put off by the veteran's slow start, but that's largely due to an absurdly low 55.6 percent strand rate that's a full 20 percent below his career average.

Gio Gonzalez, WAS vs. MIN ($9,100): Gonzalez has been tremendous out of the gate, posting an impressive 0.69 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 12 strikeouts in his first two starts. Things shouldn't get much harder at home against a pathetic Twins offense that ranks 27th in baseball with 3.0 runs per game. Gonzalez's 3.21 career ERA at home is 0.73 runs lower than his road mark, making this already appealing matchup even tastier.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK at TOR ($3,500): The logic behind this choice is no different than the usual for Vogt -- the Athletics catcher pummels right-handed pitching while being available at a reasonable price due to the platoon-based nature of his playing time. His stock is even higher than normal in this particular matchup, as Vogt's value is boosted by the added benefits of playing at the hitter-friendly Rogers Centre (1.157 Park Factor) while facing a pitcher who has allowed a .340 career wOBA to left-handed batters in Aaron Sanchez.

FIRST BASEMAN

Adrian Gonzalez, LAD at COL ($4,600): Gonzalez has a number of factors going for him, as he faces a right-handed pitcher with an 0-2 career record in baseball's most hitter-friendly park. Rockies starter Jon Gray has a 5.33 ERA in 40.2 career major league innings, while Gonzalez's .380 career wOBA against righties makes him an imposing presence in the heart of the Dodgers' order even before factoring in the Coors Field effect.

SECOND BASEMAN

Logan Forsythe, TB at NYY ($4,200): Forsythe brings a lot more pop than your typical leadoff-hitting second baseman, as evidenced by his 17-homer 2015 season in which he posted a .405 wOBA against lefties. He's not the only Rays player to have success against the aging CC Sabathia, but that shouldn't diminish the fact that Forsythe has mashed two doubles and two home runs en route to a .400 batting average in 15 at-bats against the Yankee southpaw.

THIRD BASEMAN

Evan Longoria, TB at NYY ($4,600): Longoria has faced Sabathia more than any other pitcher, producing a robust 1.268 OPS in 64 career at-bats against the veteran lefty. Those numbers should only continue climbing considering Longoria owns a .383 career wOBA against southpaws while Sabathia is merely a shell of his former self at this stage of his career.

SHORTSTOP

Asdrubal Cabrera, NYM at ATL ($3,400): The switch-hitting Cabrera has been a stronger hitter from the left side in the latter stages of his career, recording a higher wOBA in every season since 2013. That's where he'll be hitting from against Braves right-hander Bud Norris, who is being torched by lefty bats to the tune of a .408 wOBA this season after surrendering an astronomical .385 mark in 2015.

OUTFIELD

Odubel Herrera, PHI at MIL ($3,600): Herrera's newfound patience at the plate has earned the second-year outfielder a spot in the top third of the Phillies order in each of his appearances this season. That prime hitting position should come in handy against Brewers starter Zach Davies, who has only managed to record an out once in six chances against left-handed batters this season, and owns a bloated 4.71 ERA in 36.1 career innings at the major league level. Those looking to invest smartly in Philadelphia's offense against Davies without breaking the bank have found the perfect man for the job in Herrera.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs. PIT ($3,800): Tomas has been eating lefties like Jonathan Niese for breakfast this season, posting a .605 wOBA against them through 16 plate appearances. He's 3-for-6 with two doubles against the Pirates pitcher in his career, and is now in a prime position to do extensive damage after being promoted into the heart of the Diamondbacks' order on the strength of a six-game hitting streak.

Michael Conforto, NYM at ATL ($3,400): Owners looking to take advantage of Bud Norris' inability to retire lefty bats should include Conforto in their lineups. The young outfielder has racked up an impressive .378 wOBA against right-handed pitching during his time in the majors, and Norris is a below-average righty based on his results since the start of the 2015 season. You'd be hard-pressed to find better upside than that possessed by New York's three-hole hitter in this price range.
