FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Rick Porcello, BOS at ATL, ($7,400): It would make a lot of sense to pay up and go with a pitcher like Madison Bumgarner, who will be at home to face the lowly Padres. However, Porcello is a more economical pick because he could be in the middle of a breakout season. His 4.63 ERA is nothing to write home about but his ability to strike out batters (24 in 19.1 innings) has seen him score 51, 46 and 39 fantasy points in his first three starts, respectively. The Monday matchup is more than ideal, as the Braves have struggled coming out of the gate against right-handed pitching with the third worst wOBA (.280). Turner Field has played as a pitchers' park, furthering Porcello's appeal.

CATCHER

Geovany Soto, LAA vs KAN, ($2,300): Obviously the price is right and it will allow a few players from the Pittsburgh/Colorado game to get into your lineup. Soto has done a decent job as the Halo's backup, with games of nine, nine, nine, 24, six and six fantasy points in six of his last seven games. There's some BvP voodoo working here as well, as Soto has a 1.012 OPS against Ian Kennedy, albeit in 13 plate appearances. Of course, make sure he's in the lineup before using this punt option at a position that typically isn't worth paying up for.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, CLE at MIN, ($3,200): Napoli always seems to fly under the radar despite being a fixture in the heart of the Indians' order. He's always hit left-handed pitching well, as he has a .378 wOBA this season and a .403 wOBA last season against southpaws. On the opposite side, Tommy Milone posted a .331 wOBA against right-handed hitters last season, and Napoli has gone 5-for-14 against Milone with a home run and a .438 OBP.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, MIN vs CLE, ($2,900): Dozier has heated up over the last few days and has hit two home runs over his last four games, resulting in games of 30 and 24 fantasy points. He's scored fantasy points in nine straight contests and has a very favorable BvP mark against Danny Salazar: a 1.606 OPS, including two home runs, and a .550 OBP in 20 plate appearances. Dozier is also capable of swiping the occasional bag, making him even more attractive in DFS.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA vs HOU, ($3,000): This is about as cheap as Seager came last season and the reason his price is this low would be directly related to his .134 batting average. He has hit two home runs over his last six games and has historically hit right-handed pitching better than left-handers. Before last season, he sported a wOBA of .376, .357 and .340 over his last season against righties, and he now gets Doug Fister, who last season had an xFIP of 5.03 and struggled on the road with a .355 wOBA.

SHORTSTOP

Jose Iglesias, DET vs OAK, ($2,300): Shortstop is going to be a tough position to figure out tonight in DFS considering the pitching that's on the mound. Iglesias has been a bit slow to start the season, though he has at least six fantasy points in five of his last seven games. Last season he had a .386 wOBA against right-handed pitching and now gets Kendall Graveman, who is off to a nice start, but a road trip to a rested Detroit team should be his undoing.

OUTFIELD

Seth Smith, SEA vs HOU, ($2,400): Again, it's likely going to advantageous to find players close to the minimum price to fit in guys from the game in Colorado. Smith fits that bill as he's raked against righties for the last few seasons with a .343 wOBA last season and .357 the year before. Look for him to hit in a top-5 spot tonight in the Mariners' order and it doesn't hurt that he crushed a homer Sunday on the road against the Angels.

Ezequiel Carrera, TOR vs CHI, ($3,100): He's quickly assumed the leadoff duties and has rewarded fantasy owners with instant production. Carrera scored 24 and 30 fantasy points over the weekend and has a good chance to continue that hot streak. Outside of Colorado there aren't a lot of good games to target hitters in, but Toronto at home is a good one over the past few seasons. Miguel Gonzalez gave up a .353 wOBA last season away from home and at 31 isn't going to turn a corner anytime soon.

Yasmany Tomas, ARI vs STL, ($3,400): It's always an easy call to put Paul Goldschmidt into your lineup against a lefty but it should be just as easy with Tomas. After having a .341 wOBA last season against southpaws, Tomas has gotten off to a blazing start in 2016 with a .475 wOBA against them. Last season, Jaime Garcia gave up his worst wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, a situation he'll face Monday against Tomas.
