DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jose Quintana, CWS vs. MIN ($10,600): Quintana's numbers are stellar across the board, as he has a 4-1 record, 1.40 ERA and 0.98 WHIP, while striking out almost a batter per inning. He's already claimed this same Twins squad as one of his victims, yielding only four hits and an earned run over six innings for his first victory of the season back on April 11. The Twins' bats have emerged somewhat from their early-season slumber but have still tallied the fifth-highest number of strikeouts in the majors (256). They've also been shut out eight times, and have struggled against left-handed pitching, striking out at the sixth-highest clip in the majors (24.3 percent) against southpaws.

Chris Tillman, BAL vs. OAK ($7,700): After an up-and-down 2015, Tillman has seemingly returned to form over his first six starts this season. He's posted three consecutive quality starts against the Blue Jays, Rays and Yankees, and struck out nine batters apiece in his last two trips to the mound. Those outings netted 34.6 and 30.4 fantasy points, respectively, outstanding returns on his price. He's looking at another favorable matchup against the A's, as Oakland checks in with the American League's fourth-lowest team batting average (.235). Tillman has also dominated them to the tune of a 2-0 record, 2.28 ERA and .177 batting average over 27.2 innings in his encounters with them over the previous three seasons.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KAN at CLE ($3,600): Perez has undoubtedly taken up permanent residence in Indians starter Josh Tomlin's nightmares after touching him up for nine hits in 14 career at-bats, including three doubles, a homer and five RBI. Perez's recent struggles have kept his price reasonable, making him a relatively low-risk pivot from more expensive options. Perez is still tallying a .334 wOBA and 35.7 percent hard contact rate against righties despite his struggles, while Tomlin has yielded a .332 wOBA in his career.

FIRST BASE

Brandon Belt, SFG vs. COL ($4,500): Belt has a.405 wOBA, 32.8 percent line drive rate and 35.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this season and now gets to face Eddie Butler, who has allowed a .337 wOBA and 50 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters this season. Those numbers are actually an improvement over his career .459 wOBA and 11 homers allowed to righty bats. Belt's power has also notably been greater against right-handed pitching throughout his career, as he's hit 49 of his 67 career homers against that handedness.

SECOND BASE

Jose Altuve, HOU vs. SEA ($5,000): Altuve is battling a sore index finger and was relegated to pinch-hitting duty Saturday, so make sure he's in the lineup. If he's healthy enough to go, he'll get another crack at Hisashi Iwakuma, who he has a .433 batting average (13-for-30), five doubles, a homer and seven RBI against over his career. Altuve's multi-category upside is unquestioned, as evidenced by his 29 and 30 fantasy-point totals in two of his last three games, as well as two other contests in the last 10 where he's totaled 16 and 30 fantasy points.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI at ATL ($3,400): Lamb went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in his first encounter with Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz, and he has scored seven to 16 fantasy points in four of his last 10 games. He's also posted a .358 wOBA, .181 ISO, and 36.1 percent hard contact rate against right-handers over 82 plate appearances. Foltynewicz has been inept against both handedness of hitters this season, yielding a .530 wOBA and 50 percent hard contact rate to the 12 lefty hitters he's faced. His career numbers bear out his futility, as he's yielded a .417 wOBA, 13 homers and 30.2 percent hard contact rate to the 249 lefty bats he's faced over his two-plus major league seasons.

SHORTSTOP

Ketel Marte, SEA at HOU ($3,600): Marte has scored 14 and 22 fantasy points in two of his last three games, and he has an opportunity for more of the same against the struggling Colin McHugh. The Astros starter has allowed a .461 wOBA to the 66 lefty bats he's faced this season, along with three of the four homers he's surrendered. While he's been a much better pitcher over his career than what he's shown this season, the fact is that he's yet to show he can snap out of his current doldrums. Marte has a prime spot at the top of the Mariners' lineup, leaving him in a favorable position to exploit the opportunity.

OUTFIELD

David Peralta, ARI at ATL ($3,600): Peralta may have come up empty against a righty on Saturday, but his .383 wOBA and 26 career homers substantiate that those instances are few and far between. Therefore, at his price, we fire him right back up as an appealing value option versus the struggling Foltynewicz. The Braves' starter has significant trouble recording outs against left-handed bats, and the 48.9 percent fly-ball rate and 2.25 HR/9 rate he yields to them can only benefit a power hitter like Peralta.

Ryan Braun, MIL at CIN ($4,900): Braun has enjoyed a resurgent season and carries a .358/.419/.575 batting line into Sunday's game. He's also gotten off on the right foot in his encounters against Reds starter John Lamb, against whom he's hit .600 (3-for-5) with a double, solo homer and a walk. Braun has hit lefties extremely well over his career, including a .378 wOBA, .207 ISO, and 40 percent hard contact rate over 32 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

Melky Cabrera, CWS vs. MIN ($3,100): Cabrera has been a great option in either cash games or tournaments this season, and a matchup against Tyler Duffey could bring additional success. Cabrera has scored 17 and 22 fantasy points in two of his last five games and has especially feasted on righty pitching, posting a .367 wOBA and both of his homers this season against them over a 104 plate appearances. Those numbers feed perfectly into Duffey's weakness against lefties, as he's yielded a .531 wOBA and 50 percent hard contact rate to them this year..
