FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Wednesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Rick Porcello, BOS vs. OAK ($8,400): It seems unlikely that Porcello will keep a strikeout rate above 26 percent all season, but there is still plenty to like about the matchup, as the A's are a bottom-10 team in the league against right-handed pitching. While Porcello has had a bit of an issue with homers, Oakland will enter the contest with just a .135 team ISO. We may also have the opportunity to grab an easy win, as opposing starter Eric Surkamp has logged a 5.59 ERA over four starts.

Catcher

Brian McCann, NYY vs. KAN ($3,200): Yordano Ventura simply can't find the plate against lefties this season, having notched a 9:15 K:BB over 14 innings. This has contributed to an xFIP of 7.25 against southpaws. McCann should have opportunities for some comfortable at-bats, as he has tallied a walk rate of nearly 12 percent this season. It is also worth noting that umpire Sean Barber has seen 11.2 runs per game, which is tied for the fifth-highest mark in the league.

First Base

Hanley Ramirez, BOS vs. OAK ($3,700): Ramirez has done the bulk of his damage against left-handed hitting this season, tallying a .650 slugging percentage in 20 at-bats. I spoke briefly about Surkamp's ineffectiveness, but it is also worth noting that he will take a poor strikeout-to-walk ratio into the contest.

Second Base

Brandon Phillips, CIN vs. PIT ($2,800): Juan Nicasio can be a tough nut to crack thanks to his strikeout totals, but his rate plummets to just 21 percent against same-handed hitters. Phillips has gone on a tear to open the season, tallying a hard contact rate over 39 percent against right-handed pitchers.

Third Base

Jung Ho Kang, PIT at CIN ($3,000): Kang has made his presence felt following a lengthy absence due to surgery on his knee, having notched two homers and a double in his first 12 at-bats. Kang actually showed a fairly significant reverse split in his debut last season, carrying a .300/.359/.481 batting line with 12 homers in 115 games. This could play well against Alfredo Simon, who has kept just a 1.50 K/BB ratio against righties, resulting in an xFIP of 5.53.

Shortstop

Aledmys Diaz, STL at LAA ($3,200): Diaz continues to hammer right-handed pitching this season, tallying a .406 batting average and .319 ISO in 69 at-bats. Matt Shoemaker likely wouldn't be back in the major leagues if Garrett Richards hadn't gotten injured. He currently owns a 2.6 HR/9 rate, as well as a 9.15 ERA over five starts with the big club.

Outfield

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. MIL ($3,800): Yelich has actually walked more often than he has struck out against right-handed pitchers this season, keeping a batting line of .330/.436/.549 with four home runs in the process. There were some in the fantasy community who had high hopes for Chase Anderson heading into 2016, but he is coming off his fourth start in a row having allowed four earned runs or more. He has allowed eight home runs over that span.

Odubel Herrera, PHI at. ATL ($3,600): We can take advantage of Jhoulys Chacin's drastic platoon splits, as he has tallied an xFIP of 4.71 against lefties as opposed to just a 2.11 against righties. Herrera is showcasing a .431 OBP against right-handers in 85 at-bats. He has hit three home runs against them over that span.

Alex Gordon, KC at NYY ($2,700): Gordon has struggled for the majority of the season, but still holds a .163 ISO against right-handed pitching over 80 at-bats. Michael Pineda has had major issues with home runs this season, allowing nearly 2.2 HR/9 over 33 innings (six starts).
