FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Jon Niese, PIT vs. ATL ($7,000): There's no reason to stop picking on the Braves as they continue to be the worst offense in baseball. Niese hasn't been spectacular with a 5.63 ERA, but he's had an ERA below 4.00 over the last four seasons. After Freddie Freeman the Braves don't have much in the way of offense, and as a team they sport a .238 wOBA, 31 points lower than the next team (the Tigers, believe it or not). The 25.2 percent strikeout rate against southpaws is the sixth-worst mark in the league, putting Niese in line for nice numbers in that category as well.

CATCHER

Chris Herrmann, ARI vs. NYY ($2,800): This is one of those picks that you need to wait and see to make sure he's in the lineup. Herrmann has been a regular of late for the Diamondbacks, despite not usually playing catcher, and he has been putting up some nice fantasy stats. He has scored 40.9, 31.9, 12.5, 9.2 and 6.0 fantasy points over his last five starts, respectively, and gets a great matchup against Michael Pineda, who has been a disaster with a 6.28 ERA and has given up nine home runs in only 38.2 innings. Don't be afraid to load up on Diamondbacks.

FIRST BASE

Mark Teixeira, NYY at ARI ($2,500): Tex is off to a slow start, hitting only .198 with three home runs. The slow start has driven his price to what has to be close to an all-time low, and opposing starter Robbie Ray isn't exactly the second coming of Randy Johnson. Ray gave up a .370 wOBA to right-handed hitters last season at home and has given up a .514 wOBA this season in a much smaller sample. This should be the right spot for Teixeira to break out of his slump, and Chase Field has played as a very favorable hitter's park this season.

SECOND BASE

Starlin Castro, NYY at ARI ($2,900): It's easy to forget that Castro was once considered a top prospect and he seems to have found his offensive stroke playing for the Yankees. He has an .821 OPS against left-handed pitching this season and is on track to set a career-high for home runs. Again, Robbie Ray has struggled against right-handed hitters at home and this game has an over/under of nine runs, showing an expected run total of over four for the Yankees.

THIRD BASE

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. MIN ($3,200): Castellanos appears to be in the middle of a breakout season with a .962 OPS fueled by seven home runs. He's been hitting in a nice spot behind either Miguel Cabrera or Victor Martinez, which means he should have ample opportunities for RBI. Jose Berrios is a nice prospect but there's going to be some bumps in the road for the rookie and Monday will likely be one of them. While it's a small sample, Berrios has given up a .403 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR vs. TB ($3,200): I recommended Tulowitzki on Friday and he didn't disappoint with a home run. He finally looks like he's coming around at the plate, scoring 18.4, 28.9, 25.7, 6.0 and 34.9 fantasy points over his last five games, respectively, and he now gets the favorable right vs. lefty matchup at home. While Drew Smyly has been decent this season, he has to go into Rogers Centre -- one of the better hitter's parks in the league -- and for his career Tulowitzki has a .401 wOBA against left-handed pitching, though that mark is probably inflated due to playing at Coors Field.

OUTFIELD

Michael Saunders, TOR vs TB ($3,300): Saunders seems to have found a home north of the border and is hitting .328 on the season. He's been in a prime spot usually hitting leadoff with a bunch of home-run hitters behind him. While it makes one pause because of the lefty-on-lefty matchup, Saunders has crushed southpaws this season with a .430 wOBA. Look for him to hit leadoff against Smyly, who he's gone 3-for-6 against with two home runs.

Brandon Guyer, TB at TOR ($3,000):J.A. Happ has been very good this season but the Rays have hit left-handed pitching to the tune of a .327 wOBA, the 11th-best in baseball. As for Guyer himself, he has a .362 wOBA against lefties and Rogers Centre plays more towards hitters than pitchers. Given the righty-lefty matchup, look for him to be near the top half of the lineup, helping his fantasy prospects.

Steve Pearce, TB at TOR ($2,800): It's a small slate tonight and therefore there will be some teams, even in cash games, to have multiple players from the same team. Tampa has been solid against left-handed pitching and Pearce should be hitting cleanup right behind Evan Longoria. For the season, Pearce has a .528 wOBA against lefties and for his career that mark is .366. The BvP numbers are also in favor for Pearce, as he's gone 8-for-24 against Happ with three home runs (good for a 1.185 OPS).
