DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Johnny Cueto, SF vs. SD ($12,600): Cueto already has two complete games against the Padres this season, striking out 19 batters and allowing just one run over the two starts. That should be enough to justify the selection, but those who want to dig a bit deeper will note that the Padres are the worst team in the league against right-handed pitching and have the fourth-worst strikeout rate.

Taijuan Walker, SEA vs. OAK ($8,100): On a day when it's difficult to fade the big pitchers, Walker represents a nice low-cost option, as he will face the A's, who are a bottom-5 team against right-handed pitching. Walker is displaying stellar peripherals at home this season, posting a 2.73 xFIP and a 26 percent strikeout rate over 29.2 innings at Safeco Field.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SF vs. SD ($3,500):Drew Pomeranz has been on an incredible run this season, but he still has trouble with the free pass. Posey has actually walked more often than he has struck out against lefties in 2016, while notching a .556 slugging percentage over 45 at-bats.

FIRST BASE

Steve Pearce, TB at MIA ($3,400): Pearce is laying waste to lefties in 2016, notching a ridiculous .459 ISO over 37 at-bats. He may be in line for a nice matchup against Wei-Yin Chen, whose ground ball tendencies should mesh nicely with Pearce's 46 percent fly ball rate.

SECOND BASE

Rougned Odor, TEX vs. LAA ($4,000):Nick Tropeano threw his best game of the season last week against the Dodgers, limiting them to one run over seven innings. It was his only start where he lasted more than 5.2 frames. Tropeano is still sporting an ugly .380 wOBA against lefties, while Odor has kept a .231 ISO against right-handed pitching.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD vs. CIN ($3,000): Turner's abysmal numbers against righties shield the fact that he has actually been quite good against his opposite hand, as evidenced by his .363 wOBA over 34 at-bats. Brandon Finnegan walks too many from each side of the platoon, and he has allowed nine home runs in 38.1 innings against righties.

SHORTSTOP

Aledmys Diaz, STL vs. CHC ($3,100): Diaz has put up strong numbers against righties, and he now holds a .685 slugging percentage against same-handed pitchers. Diaz will enter a favorable matchup against John Lackey, as he rates more than six runs above average against the slider, a pitch Lackey throws 21 percent of the time.

OUTFIELD

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs. LAA ($3,700): We will head back to Globe Life Park for another bite at Tropeano. Mazara matches up well against the former Astros prospect, bringing a 44 percent ground ball rate against Tropeano's fly ball tendencies.

Marcell Ozuna, MIA vs. TB ($5,000): The Ozuna breakout appears to be in full swing, as he is carrying a .554 slugging percentage over 41 games. Matt Moore has cut down on his walks this season, but home runs remain an issue. He has allowed eight in just 46 innings.

Brandon Guyer, TB at MIA ($3,600): Guyer has begun to see regular playing time due to his hot bat, but he still does the bulk of his damage against left-handed pitchers. He will enter Monday's game against Chen having tallied a .333/.451/524 slash line over 42 at-bats against southpaws.

Other Options: Giancarlo Stanton, MIA vs. TB ($4,700); Odubel Herrera, PHI at DET ($4,000); Dexter Fowler, CHC at STL ($4,800)
