FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER:

Zack Greinke, ARI at HOU ($10,000): The slate of available pitchers is littered with risk, making starters you can trust that much more valuable, and while Madison Bumgarner ($12,000) is enticing against an anemic Braves offense, Greinke offers similar upside at a lower cost. After a rough start to the season Greinke's looked better of late (17.4 rate over his last six starts) and faces an Astros lineup that has struck out more than any other in baseball while only managing a .313 wOBA against right-handed pitching.

CATCHER:

Welington Castillo, ARI at HOU ($2,600): Castillo has cooled down after a hot start, but he has continued to rake against left-handed pitching (.426 wOBA, .380 ISO). He now faces lefty Dallas Keuchel, who's allowed a .349 wOBA to right-handed hitters and has generally failed to look anything like the guy who won the Cy Young Award last season. Take advantage of Castillo's depressed price and buy yourself a Beef Wellington with the money he wins you. Sorry guys, that wasn't my best work. Let's move on and forget it ever happened.

FIRST BASE:

Brandon Belt, SF at ATL ($3,900): Belt has been a rock in the middle of San Fran's lineup, rocking an impressive .386 wOBA and .195 ISO. Belt has always hit right-handed pitching well (career .354 wOBA) and has been especially potent this season with a .372 wOBA and five of his six home runs. As if that weren't enough, he faces righty Aaron Blair, who's been crushed by left-handed hitters (.408 wOBA allowed) yet Belt is still only the fifth-highest priced first baseman.

SECOND BASE:

Josh Harrison, PIT at MIA ($3,100): Harrison just continues to hit, sporting a .329 batting average and .346 wOBA. The 28-year-old has terrorized left-handed pitching (.420 wOBA) and faces Wei-Yin Chen, who's yielded a .333 wOBA and all eight of the home runs to right-handed hitters.

THIRD BASE:

Jung Ho Kang, PIT at MIA ($3,400): Kang hasn't missed a beat since returning from the horrific knee injury he suffered last season, rocking a .379 wOBA and .338 ISO in 20 games, yet he is still priced quite reasonably. He's been particularly devastating against left-handers (.468 wOBA, .522 ISO), granted in a small sample size, and faces the aforementioned Chen.

SHORTSTOP:

Didi Gregorius, NYY at DET ($2,500): Outside of the high-end options, there isn't much to like at shortstop, and while Gregorius has been horrendous against right-handed pitching (.264 wOBA), he's been surprisingly strong against lefties (.340 batting average, .346 wOBA). Luckily, he faces a lefty in Matt Boyd, who's exhibited reverse splits in his limited major league work (.449 wOBA allowed to left-handed hitters) and Gregorius can be had for a dirt cheap price.

OUTFIELD:

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. PIT ($3,300): Yelich has been terrific this season (.397 wOBA), as the 24-year-old has cemented himself in the middle of Miami's lineup. He has been notably effective against right-handed pitching (.409 wOBA, .226 ISO) and faces Juan Nicasio, who's allowed a .408 wOBA to left-handed hitters.

Matt Kemp, SD vs. SEA ($3,100): Kemp has had an up-and-down season but the one thing that's been consistent is his ability to mash left-handed pitching (.375 wOBA, .370 ISO). He now faces Wade Miley, who's allowed a .350 wOBA and 10 home runs to right-handed hitters.

Cameron Maybin, DET vs. NYY ($3,000): Maybin has been a monster since returning from the disabled list (.435 wOBA) and always offers the potential for high-end production due to his combination of power and speed. Most importantly, he faces Michael Pineda, who's been a complete disaster this season (6.92 ERA, 1.65 WHIP) and hasn't shown any signs of turning things around.
