FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Josh Tomlin, CLE vs TB ($8,700): Tomlin, who has a 3.27 ERA this season, has scored 33, 25, 40, 48 and 50 points in five of his last six starts. The Rays struggle against right-handed pitching and have a .311 wOBA against them this season, good for 21st in baseball. Tampa also strikes out at a 25.1 percent rate against righties, which is worse than everyone but the Brewers. While there are some elite options, Tomlin offers a lot of salary relief with a nice floor.

CATCHER

Jason Castro, HOU vs LAA ($2,500): Castro has a .401 wOBA at home against righties this year, while opposing starter Jhoulys Chacin has struggled more against lefties in his career (.335 wOBA vs a .295 wOBA against right-handed hitters), and those numbers were very close even when he pitched at Coors Field than on the road.

FIRST BASE

Mike Napoli, CLE vs TB ($2,900): It's never a bad idea to pair your starting pitcher with a hitter or two from the same team. Napoli has cemented himself as the cleanup hitter for the Tribe and has nice RBI opportunities given the hitters in front of him. Facing Drew Smyly is favorable for Napoli given his penchant for hitting lefties, as he has a .389 wOBA against left-handed pitchers in his career, including .403 last season at home against southpaws.

SECOND BASE

Jonathan Schoop, BAL at TEX ($3,000):This is a case of riding the hot hand and there aren't many other hitters in baseball hotter than Schoop right now. He's gone 6-for-9 over his last two games and has four home runs over his last nine. He has a .392 wOBA on the road against left-handed pitching and gets a favorable ballpark (Arlington) and Derek Holland tonight. Remember that Mark Trumbo hits lefties very well too.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager, SEA at DET ($3,500): It's not a bad idea to run out a stack of Mariners, including lefties Robinson Cano and Seth Smith. Seager, who has three home runs in his last nine games, has always been better against right-handed pitching, and he has a .367 wOBA on the road against righties in his career. Opposing starter Mike Pelfrey has been a good pitcher to fade this season and has given up a .386 wOBA to lefties this year.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHI vs STL ($2,900):Jaime Garcia doesn't appear to be the greatest matchup but Baez has caught fire of late and appears to be figuring out big league pitching. Baez has scored 27.9, 15.2, 12, 31.9 and 25.2 fantasy points in five of his last nine games and has hit left-handed pitchers better this season, posting a .420 wOBA against them, while and Garcia is giving up a .345 wOBA on the road.

OUTFIELD

Marcell Ozuna, MIA vs COL ($3,500): Ozuna continues to hammer left-handed pitching and has a ridiculous .609 wOBA at home against southpaws this year. He's fit nicely in the cleanup spot for the Marlins and has at least nine fantasy points in seven of his last 10 games. Jorge De La Rosa, 35, has been a mess this season with a 7.61 ERA and has given up a .408 wOBA to right-handed hitters.

Justin Upton, DET vs SEA ($3,400): It appears Upton has finally heated up at the dish, reaching base safely in 15 of his last 16 games. He's homered in two of his last three and has a .925 OPS over the last two weeks. Nate Karns is a decent pitcher but has given up a .459 wOBA on the road to right-handed hitters this season.

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs BAL ($2,900): Mazara has hit a bit of a rough patch, going 3-for-27 (.115) over the last week, but that should change soon enough. He'll be hitting back home in Texas, a place that has always played well for hitters. Mazara has a .383 wOBA at home against right-handed pitching this season and has 10 of his 11 home runs against those pitchers as well. Meanwhile, Kevin Gausman has struggled on the road this year, allowing a .348 wOBA.
