DraftKings MLB: Monday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Joe Ross, WAS vs. NYM ($9,500): The Mets have the fourth-lowest wOBA in the league this month and are a bottom-5 team overall against the slider, a pitch Ross throws a whopping 38 percent of the time. It is also worth noting that Noah Syndergaard will enter the game after being removed from his last start with an elbow injury, which could give us a better shot at picking up a win.

Collin McHugh, HOU at LAA ($6,900): We should look to pounce on the Angels whenever possible, as their typical lineup against right-handed pitching includes an average wOBA south of .300 for the 5-9 spots. McHugh could have the tools to be successful against the Halos, as they are a bottom-10 team against the cutter, a pitch he throws more than 30 percent of the time.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK at SF ($3,200): This selection has more to do with a platoon advantage than Jeff Samardzija's recent struggles, as Vogt is among the top-10 fly ball hitters in the league. This should play well against Samardzija's 47 percent ground ball rate, saving us some salary to spend on premium positions.

FIRST BASE

Tommy Joseph, PHI at ARI ($3,100): Joseph remains the best kept secret in Philadelphia, as he has hammered lefties to the tune of a .633 slugging percentage over 30 at-bats. Robbie Ray strikes out batters from both sides of the platoon, but his walk rate grows to 11 percent against his opposite hand, and his HR/9 rate reaches 1.7.

SECOND BASE

Ben Zobrist, CHC at CIN ($4,400): Advanced metrics tell us that opposing starter Dan Straily may soon turn into a pumpkin against left-handed hitters, as his 16 percent strikeout rate and 14 percent walk rate have contributed to a 5.86 xFIP. Meanwhile, Zobrist is sporting a .471 slugging percentage and a .382 wOBA in 68 games against righties this year.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB vs. BOS ($4,700):Eduardo Rodriguez's season has been in free fall since a solid start in his debut against the Orioles at the end of May, as he has allowed at least four runs in each of next four outings. Longoria has shown more power against righties this season, but he holds a higher wOBA against lefty pitchers while also keeping better strikeout and walk rates.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE at ATL ($4,800): Left-handed hitters don't seem to have a problem squaring up John Gant in his first season in the major leagues, tallying a hard contact rate of over 33 percent. Lindor could have an edge heading into the matchup, as he rates 2.5 runs above average against the changeup, a pitch Gant throws nearly a quarter of the time.

OUTFIELD

Carlos Beltran, NYY vs. TEX ($5,000): Fantasy players are going to have to pay quite a bit (probably too much) to stack Yankees, and Chi Chi Gonzalez is the reason why. Gonzalez walked more batters than he struck out over 67 innings with the Rangers last season, and he had an ERA over 5.00 before being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock last week. This looks like an absolute blowout on paper, but there is a question as to whether the Yankees are talented enough to invest in more than one or two players.

Angel Pagan, SF vs. OAK ($3,500):Angel Pagan has looked like his old self after returning from the disabled list, tallying 16 hits (including five doubles and a home run) over 45 at-bats this month. Daniel Mengden has been fantastic against righties as he begins his major league career, but lefties have had their way, notching two homers, four walks and a .577 slugging percentage in 6.2 innings.

Michael Saunders, TOR at COL ($4,900):Jon Gray has looked dominant at times this season, but he has yet to solve his home ballpark. This is particularly true against lefties, as he has allowed four homers and a .585 slugging percentage in 13 innings. Saunders just keeps rolling along in his breakout campaign, slashing. 296/.372/.572 with 15 homers over 68 games.

Other options: George Springer, HOU at LAA ($4,300); Carlos Gonzalez, COL vs. TOR ($5,300); Mookie Betts, BOS at TB ($5,100)
