FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Julio Urias, LOS at MIL ($8,100): Urias' major league career started out with a thud against the Mets back on May 27, but the rookie has progressively turned things around over his subsequent five starts. The risk with Urias is that he's highly unlikely to go past the sixth inning, if that far, but his ability to mow down hitters at an above average clip, and the fact he faces a team in the Brewers that's very likely to facilitate those K's, makes him a value play Tuesday. Urias has 35 whiffs in 27 innings while the Brewers have struck out 23.8 percent of the time against southpaws, sixth-highest in the majors. The Dodgers rookie has also scored 30 to 39 fantasy points in three of his last four starts thanks in large part to his strikeout ability, as he's notably gone no longer than five innings in any of those contests.

Catcher

Sandy Leon, BOS at TAM ($2,400): There's actually an abundant selection of solid value at catcher Tuesday, including Willson Contreras ($3,100), Wilson Ramos ($3,000), Salvador Perez ($3,000) and Stephen Vogt ($3,000). However, for those really looking to save some cash at the position, the red-hot Leon is worth a look at his near-minimum cost. The backstop's bat has been on fire this season and he continued his hot hitting Monday with his first homer of the year. Leon has double-digit fantasy points in four of his last seven games and the switch-hitter has a .599 wOBA, .333 ISO and a 50 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching. Meanwhile, Rays starter Chris Archer, while still intimidating, hasn't looked totally right all season and has given up a .330 wOBA and 32.2 percent hard contact rate to left-handed hitters.

First Base

Dae-Ho Lee, SEA vs. PIT ($2,600): Lee should get the call against lefty Jon Niese on Tuesday, who's given up a .386 wOBA and a whopping 15 of 18 homers on the season to right-handed hitters. Matters get even worse for Niese on the road, where he's yielded a .431 wOBA and 10 of those 15 round-trippers to righties. He's also been going downhill in June, during which he's generated a 5.97 ERA and given up a .372 wOBA. Lee owns a .347 wOBA and .241 ISO against southpaws, and those numbers notably rise to .466 and .410 respectively when facing them at home.

Second Base

Logan Forsythe, TAM vs. BOS ($2,800): Forsythe's bat has been heating up again over the last three games and he draws a matchup with some favorable history behind it Tuesday. Forsythe has gone 6-for-13 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI over the last trio of contests and has slashed .357/.438/.500 against Rick Porcello over 14 career at-bats with a triple and a pair of walks. Right-handed bats have also been Porcello's undoing this season, as he's surrendered a .345 wOBA and eight of his 13 homers on the season to them. Things have been even worse for him away from Fenway, as he's yielded a .391 wOBA and six of those homers to righty hitters over 23 road innings. Forsythe owns a .330 wOBA versus right-handed pitching, and a .368 wOBA at Tropicana Field this season as well.

Third Base

Anthony Rendon, WAS vs. NYM ($2,700): Mets starter Matt Harvey is another quality pitcher who's enduring a forgettable season and we'll pick on him a bit with a bat that's had success against him in the past. Rendon has slashed .353/.389/.588 against Harvey over 17 career at-bats with a double, homer and four RBI. The Nationals' third baseman also has all seven of his homers against right-handed pitching this season and has been swinging a hot bat, going 5-for-11 with a double, three RBI and three runs over the last three games, amassing double-digit fantasy points in two of those contests.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus, TEX at NYY ($2,800): As of this writing, CC Sabathia is still scheduled to take the mound Tuesday despite battling an ankle injury suffered in his last start. The fact that he may not be 100 percent could well affect his ability to put everything he has into his pitches, and Andrus could be a beneficiary. He already checks in with a favorable track record versus the veteran southpaw, having slashed .440/.440/.520 over 25 career at-bats against Sabathia with a triple and five RBI. The Rangers shortstop has also decimated lefties overall this season, generating a .408 wOBA that rises to an even more impressive .470 away from Globe Life Park. While Sabathia has been a reverse-splits pitcher and made life pretty tough on righties overall he's been more vulnerable at Yankee Stadium, where his ERA is over a full run higher than on the road.

Outfield

Starling Marte, PIT at SEA ($3,300): Marte gives you some cost-effective exposure to Mariners starter Hisashi Iwakuma, who's now surrendered a whopping 17 homers on the season with 10 of those coming to right-handed bats. He's also yielded a .369 wOBA and six of those homers to righty hitters at home and the seven round-trippers and .368 wOBA he's surrendered in June are his highest monthly totals in those respective categories this season. Marte owns an outstanding .396 wOBA and 38.2 percent hard contact rate against righties, with those numbers climbing slightly to .400 and 39.0 when facing them on the road.

Brandon Barnes, COL vs. TOR ($3,200): Barnes gets you some Coors Field exposure at a very reasonable price, with the added bonus of a hot bat. He's hitting a red-hot .700 (7-for-10) with a pair of doubles, an RBI and three runs over his last three games and has double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four contests. Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ has had a solid season overall, but has generated a 4.50 ERA and yielded a .336 wOBA in June and has given up 11 of his 12 homers on the season to right-handed hitters. While Barnes has had a tough time against southpaws this season over a very limited 18-plate appearance sample, he owns a .338 wOBA against them at home throughout his career, with many of those games coming the last two-plus seasons at Coors Field.

Bryce Brentz, BOS at TAM ($2,000): There's virtually no risk and plenty of potential reward with the min-priced Brentz, who's gone 7-for-15 in the four games since being recalled from the minors, a tally that includes a pair of doubles, a homer and three RBI. He's amassed a .429 wOBA against righties like Archer over that limited sample along with a 33.3 percent hard contact rate. While he's bound to cool off in coming games, he certainly offers you the potential for a nice return if you need to punt at minimum price somewhere in your lineup.
