DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jordan Zimmermann, DET at TB ($8,300): With three horrible starts through his past four outings, Zimmermann's price is down and ripe for profit with a matchup tailored for a bounce-back outing. Tampa Bay has the second-highest strikeout percentage (26.2 percent) against right-handed arms with an underwhelming .317 wOBA and 92 wRC+. Still, Zimmermann isn't without risk, as he's posted a 6.52 ERA over five starts in June.

Wei-Yin Chen, MIA at ATL ($6,900): Look for Chen to build off his solid outing against Chicago last time out (two runs allowed with seven strikeouts through seven innings). Atlanta ranks 29th in wOBA (.267) and wRC+ (64) against lefties, and through his first two starts against the Braves, Chen has limited them to a .432 OPS and struck out 11 batters through 11.1 innings with a 2.38 ERA.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET at TB ($2,500): McCann comes in with a solid .516 slugging percentage, .334 wOBA and 106 wRC+ in June and comes in at a bargain-bin salary. Meanwhile, opposing hurler Jake Odorizzi has allowed 16 runs and an .874 OPS through his past 27.2 innings over five starts this month.

FIRST BASE

Pedro Alvarez, BAL at SEA ($3,300): Going cheap at the 3 can be risky, and Alvarez is a sit risk, but he's been quietly mashing in June with a .667 slugging percentage, .422 wOBA and 165 wRC+. The counting stats (six home runs and 15 RBI) are impressive considering he has only made 14 starts this month, too. While well within flier territory, Alvarez has historically had his best month in June (career .867 OPS).

SECOND BASE

Kolten Wong, STL vs. KC ($3,100): Sitting with just four extra-base hits for the season, Wong should fly well under the radar Thursday. He's a modest 9-for-32 since returning from the minors and facing Chris Young should help his pop. Young has allowed an .867 slugging percentage, .529 wOBA and 6.00 HR/9 to left-handed hitters this year, after all.

THIRD BASE

Eugenio Suarez, CIN at WAS ($3,900): Southpaws have been a welcomed challenge for Suarez, and six of his 14 home runs have come against lefties in 144 fewer plate appearances. He boasts a .946 OPS, .274 ISO, .400 wOBA and 150 wRC+ against lefties this season, and facing Gio Gonzalez (8.44 ERA over his past seven starts) is a solid matchup.

SHORTSTOP

Zack Cozart, CIN at WAS ($4,600): Continuing to pick on Gonzalez, Cozart has a solid .271 ISO, .348 wOBA and 115 wRC+ against southpaws this season and should lead off. His price tag could keep his ownership in check despite the obvious plus-matchup.

OUTFIELD

Brandon Moss, STL vs. KC ($4,800): Doubling up with another mini stack, Moss checks out perfectly against Kansas City hurler Chris Young. Moss has a .684 slugging percentage, .367 ISO, .451 wOBA and 189 wRC+ against righties, and he's posted a .333/.403/.768 slash line with 12 runs, seven home runs and 14 RBI in June.

Giancarlo Stanton, MIA at ATL ($4,500): With an active 16-for-45 stretch at the dish including 10 runs, three home runs and 11 RBI through his past 11 games, Stanton has kicked his offensive funk and checks out at a discounted price Thursday.

Christian Yelich, MIA at ATL ($4,300): A nice stacking option next to Stanton, as a left-handed bat, Yelich has significant upside against Mike Foltynewicz, who has allowed a .412 wOBA and 2.30 HR/9 to lefty bats during his career, while Yelich has a .389 wOBA and 145 wRC+ against righties this season.
