DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Scott Kazmir, LAD vs. SD ($9,100): The Friars are a threat against left-handed pitchers with a sixth-ranked wOBA (.344) and fourth-best wRC+ (117). However, they still strike out at a 23.7 percent rate, and Kazmir has settled in of late. Through his past eight starts, the veteran southpaw has limited hitters to a .637 OPS while striking out 53 batters over 43 innings and allowing just 16 runs for a 3.35 ERA. There is a likelihood of low ownership here, too.

Michael Wacha, STL at MIL ($8,100): Through his past five outings, Wacha has a 2.78 ERA with 27 punchouts over 32.1 innings. With a number of high-end hurlers taking the hill Friday, it pushed Wacha's salary down into profit territory. Additionally, Milwaukee has a league-leading 26.0 strikeout percentage against right-handed arms.

CATCHER

James McCann, DET at TOR ($2,700): A clear-cut value, McCann has a .382 wOBA and 141 wRC+ against southpaws dating back to last season and a .541 slugging percentage this year. J.A. Happ has been inconsistent of late, including allowing six runs in five innings in his most recent start against Detroit on June 6.

FIRST BASE

Jose Abreu, CWS vs. ATL ($3,300) At a discounted salary, Abreu stands out as a viable contrarian option given he's beginning to trend in the right direction (.349 wOBA over his past 26 games). For his career, Abreu also has an impressive .373 wOBA and 137 wRC+ against right-handed hurlers.

SECOND BASE

Derek Dietrich, MIA vs. CIN ($3,800): Hitting right-handed pitching has been Dietrich's calling card over the past two seasons, as he boasts a rock-solid .379 wOBA and 139 wRC+. He also has nine multi-hit games through his past 20 starts, highlighting his multiple avenues to providing fantasy points. Meanwhile, opposing starter Dan Straily has also allowed 20 runs through his past 21 innings over four starts.

THIRD BASE

Danny Valencia, OAK at HOU ($3,600): While Collin McHugh has been much tidier of late (2.49 ERA over his past four outings), Valencia has a .359 wOBA and 128 wRC+ against righties dating back to 2015. Valencia should fly way under the radar to provide nice contrarian upside.

SHORTSTOP

Jose Reyes, NYM vs. WAS ($2,700): It's obviously a daunting matchup against Stephen Strasburg (2.71 ERA), but Reyes has two doubles and a bomb over his past two games and checks out with a near-minimum salary. It's rare to find a proven fantasy contributor in this price range, so as far as sources of cap relief, Reyes is in the conversation.

OUTFIELD

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. NYM ($4,100): With three home runs in his past five games, Harper appears to be kick-starting another torrid stretch. The matchup against Noah Syndergaard is a concern, but it's built into Harper's salary, and he's matchup-proof when hot. Harper leads the majors in wOBA (.443) and wRC+ (183) since the beginning of last season against righties, after all.

Cody Asche, PHI at COL ($3,900): The Coors Field angle is strong here, but Asche has shown well of late with a .569 slugging percentage over his last 21 games. He has 11 doubles and three home runs during the span and has settled into the heart of the lineup. His 0-for-4 showing Thursday might scare some competitors off, too.

Randal Grichuk, STL at MIL ($3,700): With a successful pinch-hit bid and consecutive multi-hit showings since being recalled from Memphis, Grichuk is an intriguing buy Friday. He's also posted a .360 wOBA and 129 wRC+ against right-handed hurlers dating back to last season.
