FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Trevor Bauer, CLE at MIN ($8,600): While Bauer has been steady throughout the year he's been marginally better on the road, owning a 2.57 ERA and .273 wOBP against through 49 innings. The Indians have won six of Bauer's last eight starts and the potential for victory against Twins' starter Tyler Duffey and his 5.20 ERA helps offset the modest strikeout rate of 7.53 K/9 away from home that Bauer brings into a contest against a team that fans at the 10th-highest rate in the league at 22 percent.

Catcher

Matt Wieters, BAL at TAM ($2,600): Wieters is hitless in his last six at-bats making him a nice, overdue selection. He's 8-for-23 (.348) with two home runs, three RBI and three walks in his career against lefty Matt Moore.

First Base

Freddie Freeman, ATL vs. COL ($2,800): Freeman went into the All-Star break swinging a hot bat, owning nine hits in his last nine games including three home runs. He's the team's best hitter against righties with a .349 wOBP and .240 ISO and has an inviting matchup with the Rockies' Chad Bettis and his 5.65 ERA.

Second Base

Robinson Cano, SEA vs. HOU ($3,400): Cano carried a nine-game hitting streak into the break, having gone deep in two of his last five games. He is 5-for-11 against projected Astros starter Lance McCullers.

Third Base

Yangervis Solarte, SDP vs SFG ($2,600): Solarte found his power stroke prior to the break, knocking four bombs in 10 games during July. In a very limited sample size he's 2-for-4 with two walks against the Giants' Saturday starter Jeff Samardzija.

Shortstop

Trevor Story, COL at ATL ($2,900): The price here doesn't reflect a player who had 21 home runs and 57 RBI in the season's first half. Despite his 30.7 percent strikeout rate, Story has a .355 wOBP and team-high .284 ISO against right handed pitching. Friday's starter for the Braves, Mike Foltynewicz, has been susceptible to the long ball having allowed six in his last four starts and 11 in nine outings in 2016.

Outfield

Jacoby Ellsbury, NYY vs. BOS ($3,900): Picking a Yankee or three seems ideal against Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez and his 8.59 ERA over 29.1 innings this season. Rodriguez's splits make this pick challenging, as he's allowing a .421 wOBP to righties versus a .376 wOBP to lefties. But if I'm choosing between Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran's switch hitting I'm leaning towards H2H success, and Ellsbury is 5-for-11 with two homers compared to a smaller sample 2-for-5 for Beltran.

Ryan Braun, MIL at CIN ($3,700): Braun, paired with Ellsbury or Beltran, aren't exactly screaming value plays based on price but the matchup appears too sound to ignore. Braun owns a solid .411 wOBP against lefties to go along with a .243 ISO. Only first baseman Chris Carter (.333 ISO) can top that on the Brewers, but Braun brings a 4-for-7 track record with two home runs and four walks against Reds starter John Lamb.

Carlos Gonzalez, COL at ATL ($3,500): If you followed this lineup to a tee, you'd end up with $1,000 to upgrade as desired. Even still, Gonzalez looks tempting against the aforementioned Foltywezicz. Gonzalez owns a robust .408 wOBP against right-handers, while Folty is allowing a .384 wOBP to lefties.
