FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Tuesday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Pitcher

Cody Reed, CIN vs. ATL ($6,000): A number of what would be considered "value" options at pitcher are fairly unconvincing Tuesday, but Reed is an intriguing if unlikely option despite his unsightly 8.39 ERA and 1.86 WHIP. The young lefty brings plenty of strikeout potential, as evidenced by a 29:10 K:BB. He also draws a Braves team that sports an anemic .283 wOBA and .107 ISO against southpaws, while also striking out against them 20.7 percent of the time. The Braves have an .092 ISO over the last seven days as well, furthering Reed's admittedly contrarian appeal if you're looking to save some money at pitcher in a tournament.

Catcher

Wilson Ramos, WAS vs. LOS ($2,500): Ramos' price has plummeted considerably, making him a highly tempting value option at catcher. The drop hasn't been warranted by any corresponding lack of production, as he's hit safely in seven straight games dating back to before the All-Star break. Ramos also brings a .349 wOBA and .235 ISO against southpaws this season, while Dodgers starter Scott Kazmir has yielded a .338 wOBA and eight homers to right-handed hitters on the road this season, along with a 30 percent hard contact rate.

First Base

Tommy Joseph, PHI vs. MIA ($2,500): Joseph owns a .237 ISO and 40.7 percent hard contact rate on the season against right-handed pitching, while also hitting eight of his 12 homers on the season against that handedness. He's also knocking the cover off the ball in July, amassing a .542 wOBA and jaw-dropping .467 ISO over 30 at-bats. Marlins starter Jose Urena, just recalled from Triple-A New Orleans, yielded a .400 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season in his earlier stint with the big league club and a .354 wOBA over 45.2 career innings against righty bats.

Second Base

Jurickson Profar, TEX at LAA ($2,500): Profar is another player whose price appears out of whack with his overall production. He's slashing .318/.366/.455 on the season and brings double-digit fantasy point upside. Meanwhile, Angels starter Tim Lincecum has struggled after a strong first start against the A's, giving up 17 earned runs over his five subsequent trips to the mound, struggling with his control (2.07 WHIP) and surrendering a homer in each of those appearances.

Third Base

Nick Castellanos, DET vs. MIN ($3,300): Castellanos has four double-digit fantasy point efforts in his last 10 games with homers in three of those contests, giving you a glimpse at the upside he's typically provided throughout his breakout season. He also sports a .245 ISO against southpaws at home and a .405 wOBA to date in July. Twins starter Tommy Milone has yielded a .365 wOBA to right-handed hitters that rises to .383 when facing them on the road, along with a 36.7 percent hard contact rate.

Shortstop

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. HOU ($2,200): Semien is near minimum price yet has five double-digit fantasy point efforts over his last 10 games, including his last three. He offers plenty of power upside considering his career-high 20 homers, and has a .331 wOBA and .286 ISO to date in July. Semien has also hit .400 over 15 career at-bats against Astros starter Dallas Keuchel and has a whopping .427 wOBA, .388 ISO and 10 homers against southpaws this season. Meanwhile, Keuchel has given up a .377 wOBA and 11 homers to right-handed hitters when facing them on the road in 2016.

Outfield

Jayson Werth, WAS vs. LOS ($3,200): Werth has an astronomical .451 wOBA and .259 ISO against southpaws and a massive 54.2 percent hard contact rate against them at home. Meanwhile, Kazmir's sub-par performance against right-handed hitters on the road were detailed in Wilson Ramos' entry. The lefty's numbers against Werth also stand out, as the Nationals slugger has belted Kazmir to the tune of a .714 average with a double and solo homer over seven career at-bats.

Matt Kemp, SDP at STL ($2,500): Kemp has a tough matchup against Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez, but is priced very reasonably given his upside. He's also on a hellacious tear at the plate, now having homered in three straight games. He's tallied double-digit fantasy points in all of those contests, along with two others over his last 10. Kemp has 11 of his 19 homers on the season against righty arms as well, along with a .311 wOBA and .211 ISO against that handedness away from Petco Park. Although he shapes up much more as a tournament play given Martinez's strikeout potential and superior performance at home, Kemp could pay off nicely with one swing of the bat.

Brandon Drury, ARI vs. TOR ($2,000): Drury's minimum price is a head-scratcher, but makes him a solid value play Tuesday. He has a .346 wOBA against right-handed arms that rises substantially to .406 when facing them at home, and has also blasted seven of his nine homers on the season against them. Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez has turned in an outstanding season, but Drury provides some solid upside at minimal risk.
