PITCHER
Steven Matz, NYM vs. COL ($43): The next time you want to win a bet with a friend who is a casual baseball fan, ask them who the second-worst team on the road is this season. If they answer correctly, they deserve your money. Not only do the Rockies rival the Braves with their overall ineptitude away from home, they also strike out nearly 24 percent of the time. Matz will have quite a few righties to deal with, but he has actually thrown the ball better against right-handers, notching a 24 percent strikeout rate and allowing a .299 wOBA.
Trevor Bauer, CLE vs. OAK ($36): The A's are a bottom-5 team against righties according to wOBA, and fall just outside the bottom-10 in ISO. While he has slowed down of late, Bauer still has a 22 percent strikeout rate and 3.65 ERA over 111 innings.
CATCHER
Evan Gattis, HOU at DET ($13): Gattis' price stays depressed due to his shaky overall performance, making him a fantastic play against mediocre lefties. Matt Boyd certainly fits the mold, as he has tallied a 1.5 HR/9 rate against right-handed hitters while keeping a 33 percent hard contact rate. Gattis enters the contest with an impressive .293 ISO against opposite-handed pitchers.
FIRST BASE
David Ortiz, BOS at LAA ($24): Most Red Sox worth taking are pricey, but we have to look to exploit Tim Lincecum, who has been tagged for an 8.70 ERA in seven starts, allowing nine home runs over that span. There isn't much need to sell Ortiz as an asset these days, but he could get some nice lift on Lincecum, as he has a 45 percent fly ball rate against the former Cy Young Award winner's ground ball tendencies.
SECOND BASE
Daniel Murphy, WAS at SF ($23): Opposing starter Jeff Samardzija had a fast start to his first season as a Giant, but hasn't posted an ERA lower than 5.50 since May. Murphy should have a considerable edge in the matchup, as he rates better than three runs above average against the cutter, a pitch the Shark throws 30 percent of the time.
THIRD BASE
Joey Gallo, TEX vs. KC ($9): Gallo represents the perfect kind of value play: we all know his reputation as a behemoth in the minor leagues, but he hasn't overwhelmed since his recall, which has kept him towards the back of the price pack. We will take all of the potential and pit it against Edinson Volquez, who sports a 5.17 xFIP against lefties away from the spacious confines of Kauffman Stadium.
SHORTSTOP
Alex Bregman, HOU at DET ($7): Bregman has done even less than Gallo since seeing his first glimpse of the big club, but he could turn out to be even more exciting, as he did not slug below .560 at any level in the minors this season. Some may see these two selections as risky, but I would rather take the matchups I want and play the considerable upside rather than fill the card with cost-effective plays with not as much potential.
OUTFIELD
Corey Dickerson, TB vs. NYY ($14):Ivan Nova has thrown the ball better of late, but he still struggles against lefties, securing strikeouts just 15 percent of the time, while allowing homers at a 1.8/9 clip. Corey Dickerson is strictly a righty masher, and could see a nice advantage when he puts his 46 percent fly ball rate against an extreme ground-baller like Nova.
Adam Duvall, CIN at SD ($17):Edwin Jackson carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his second start as a Friar, but his line from the outing paints a less flattering picture, as he recorded a 1:3 K:BB ratio. Jackson could be in trouble if he can't find a way to get the ball by Duvall, who has a mammoth .312 ISO against right-handed pitchers this season.
Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. OAK ($12):Kendall Graveman's penchant for allowing hard contact to lefties could get him in trouble when he takes his talents on the road, where he has allowed 10 homers in 58.1 innings. Chisenhall has fared well against righties, as evidenced by his .354 wOBA over 209 at-bats.
Other options: Bryce Harper, WAS at SF ($16); Odubel Herrera, PHI at ATL ($14); Melky Cabrera CWS at MIN ($16)
