FanDuel MLB: Friday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Jeremy Hellickson, PHI at SD ($7,300): Hellickson was rumored to be on the move at the trade deadline but ended up staying in Philadelphia. His numbers (3.70 ERA, 1.15 WHIP) show he's had a lot of success this season, and he's scored at least 21 fantasy points in eight straight starts, including games with 45 and 57 fantasy points. The Padres continue to be an ideal matchup for right-handed pitchers, with the second-worst wOBA (.292) and the second-worst strikeout rate (24.9 percent). Hellickson did have some hand trouble earlier in the week so make sure he's still in line to start before setting your lineup.

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez, NYY vs CLE ($2,000): It appears that Sanchez will get the majority of the starts at DH for the Yankees with Alex Rodriguez barely hanging onto a roster spot. Sanchez has hit safely in the last two games and had an .807 OPS at Triple-A Scranton this season, a respectable number for someone with catcher eligibility in the International League. Josh Tomlin has struggled against right-handed hitters this season, giving up a .331 wOBA to that side of the plate.

FIRST BASE

Tommy Joseph, PHI at SD ($2,400): Joseph is a great under-the-radar pick given the Phillies won't attract much attention on the road at Petco Park. Joseph has raked against left-handed pitching this season with a .391 wOBA and gets a good matchup against Christian Friedrich, who has struggled both at home this season (5.06 ERA, 1.69 WHIP) and of late (6.29 ERA, 1.56 WHIP over the last month).

SECOND BASE

Dustin Pedroia, BOS at LAD ($3,400): While this isn't the cheapest price, there are 15 other second baseman at this price or higher. Pedroia has a .947 OPS over the last two weeks and has some nice history against Scott Kazmir, going 22-for-43 (1.441 OPS), and Kazmir has allowed a .335 wOBA on the season.

THIRD BASE

Danny Valencia, OAK vs CHC ($2,900): Valencia is always in play against a southpaw, even if it's Jon Lester, whose worst split is on the road against righties where he's given up nine home runs and a .325 wOBA. Valencia has a crazy .460 wOBA against southpaws this season and has gone 6-for-20 against Lester, including a home run good and an .870 OPS. Jake Lamb ($2,800) at home against righty Chase Anderson is just as good of a play, especially at his price.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHC at OAK ($2,700): Baez has cooled off over the last week but what he's done against left-handed pitching this season shouldn't be ignored. He's facing a below mediocre lefty tonight in Dillon Overton, who has an ERA north of 9.00 and has given up six home runs to right-handed hitters in only 14.2 innings. Baez sports a .414 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season and has swiped nine bases, adding to his upside.

OUTFIELD

Ian Desmond, TEX at HOU ($3,500): A year ago fading Dallas Keuchel at home would have seemed like insanity but this season is a different story. Keuchel is giving up a .341 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year while Desmond has a impressive .439 wOBA against left-handed pitching. Desmond is now hitting second in one of the best offensive lineups in the league following the trade deadline, and he has had some good past success against Keuchel going 6-for-12 with two home runs. Teammate Ryan Rua (.374 wOBA against lefties) is a good dark horse candidate as well.

Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE at NYY ($3,000): Both Chisenhall and Tyler Naquin ($3,300) are in the middle of breakout seasons and both have feasted on righties this season. Chisenhall has a .356 wOBA against right-handed pitching and the move to Yankee Stadium will only benefit the left-handed hitter. Michael Pineda has given up a .340 wOBA at home (4.95 ERA) and the Indians come in hot, scoring at least five runs in seven straight games.

David Peralta, ARI vs MIL ($2,700): As mentioned earlier, the Diamondbacks at home are all in play against Chase Anderson (5.13 ERA). Anderson's numbers on the road are terrible, as he has a 6.33 ERA and gives up a .374 wOBA. Chase Field is one of the best hitters' parks in the league, and Peralta had a .397 wOBA against righties last season as well as a .402 wOBA at home. Arizona has the third-highest implied run total, putting Peralta and his teammates in play.
