FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Collin McHugh, HOU at MIN ($8,000): It's hard to pass on Jose Fernandez given how dominant he's been this season but there are a couple of lower-priced options to consider. McHugh has a lot of upside, as evidenced by two 10-strikeout performances in his last four games. Outside of a fluky shelling in Detroit, McHugh has scored at least 33 fantasy points in six of his last eight games. The Twins have the 10th-highest strikeout rate (21.6 percent) against right-handed pitchers, while their wOBA and ISO numbers are around league average.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK vs BAL ($2,400): This price seems way too low for a player who has had a lot of success against right-handed pitching and hits higher in the batting order than most catchers. He was hitting out of the three-hole Sunday and has a .322 wOBA against righties this season. Kevin Gausman has struggled away from Camden Yards, giving up a .377 wOBA this season and eight home runs over his last six starts.

FIRST BASE

Adrian Gonzalez, LAD vs PHI ($3,000): Gonzalez hit a home run Sunday night and has gone 8-for-15 over his last four games, including three multi-hit outings. The Phillies will run out Zach Eflin, who has struggled on the road this season (5.19 ERA) and has given up 13 earned runs over his last two starts (10 innings).

SECOND BASE

Devon Travis, TOR vs TB ($2,700): Travis, who has moved into the leadoff spot, will be in the hitter-friendly confines of Rogers Centre, with plenty of firepower to drive him in when he's on base. He hasn't needed the bats behind him of late, hitting three home runs over his last three games, and he's scored eight runs over his last four. Jake Odorizzi has pitched extremely well recently, but he's struggled on the road (4.42 ERA, .321 wOBA given up).

THIRD BASE

Hernan Perez, ATL at MIL ($2,900): It's tough to pass on Nolan Arenado and Manny Machado given their monster games Sunday, but there are a few more economical options like Perez. On a team lacking offensive firepower, Perez seems to be flying under the radar considering how much his bat has been in play. He has an .859 OPS over the last month and, not surprisingly, he has hit better on the road than at home, posting a .340 wOBA. The Braves have moved him towards the top of the order, adding to his upside for runs scored and RBI.

SHORTSTOP

Orlando Arcia, MIL vs ATL ($2,100): This is likely the cheapest Arcia will ever be and the only reason his price is this low is that he was just called up to the big club. There was speculation that the 22-year-old (his birthday was last Thursday) had grown bored with the minor leagues and that was the reason he only posted a .723 OPS at Triple-A. He's a legitimate prospect with the speed/power combo that is rare to find in the middle infield. Monday's opponent, Rob Whalen, struggled with his command in his first start and will be making his first road start of the season. The Brewers shouldn't have any trouble putting up runs, and the Brewers had Arcia hitting second Sunday.

OUTFIELD

Stephen Piscotty, STL vs CIN ($3,500): Death, taxes and Piscotty having success against left-handed pitching are the only guarantees in life. Piscotty has a .457 wOBA against lefties (.515 at home) and has an excellent matchup Monday against Cody Reed, who has given up a .408 wOBA to righties. This is a good spot to stack the Cardinals if you're looking to fade the Rockies game.

Aaron Altherr, PHI at LAD ($2,800): Alterr is one of the better prospects the Phillies have and they were only waiting for him to get over a wrist injury to call him up. He's another player with a good speed and power upside and has the righty-on-lefty advantage Monday against Julio Urias. While it's a small sample, Alterr has gone 5-for-12 against left-handed pitching, including a home run, while Urias has given up a .364 wOBA (31.1 innings) to right-handed hitters this season.

Tyler Collins, DET at SEA ($2,400): It's been interesting to see how Brad Ausmus has used Collins, who has hit leadoff and been in the two hole over the past few games. Over the last nine games he has scores of 21.2, 12.2, 12.2, 37.9 and 22.2 fantasy points, and he has a .983 OPS over the last month. Hisashi Iwakuma has a career-worst 3.99 ERA this season and has given up a .334 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Just check and make sure Cameron Maybin isn't back in action, a move that could push Collins to the bench despite his recent production.
