DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jon Lester, CHC vs. STL ($10,300): Lester takes aim at a Cardinals squad that has a mediocre .310 wOBA and 20.4 percent strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this year. He had 27.9 and 28.2 fantasy points in his last two starts, respectively, and he's been stellar at Wrigley all season, going 6-2 with a 1.99 ERA, 0.97 WHIP while allowing a .194 batting average.

Jameson Taillon, PIT vs. SD ($8,600): Taillon has been encouragingly consistent in his rookie campaign, and has demonstrated pinpoint control in the majority of his starts. He draws a favorable matchup against the Padres, who have a .233 average against righties (worst in the majors) and a .294 wOBA and 24.4 percent strikeout rate that both rank as the second-worst. Taillon also has scored between 17.3 and 23.9 fantasy points in four of his last five starts.

CATHCER

Sandy Leon, BOS vs. NYY ($2,900): Leon's success at the plate is past the mirage stage, as he continues to serve as a surprisingly prolific source of fantasy production. He's scored double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games and has a .416 wOBA at Fenway Park. While he's been even better against southpaws, his track record against righties is nothing to sneeze at, with a .344 wOBA and 42.1 percent hard contact rate. Yankees starter Michael Pineda has given up a .341 wOBA to left-handed hitters, which rises to .384 when facing them on the road.

FIRST BASE

Pedro Alvarez, BAL at OAK ($4,700) Alvarez's matchup against A's spot starter Andrew Triggs looks like a perfect storm. Alvarez has a .368 wOBA, 17 of his 18 homers and a 39.1 percent hard contact rate against righties, while Triggs has given up a .349 wOBA to left-handed hitters, and a 38.9 percent hard contact rate to them at home. While Alvarez has only gone 1-for-11 over his last four games, he's scored double-digit fantasy points in four of the six contests prior with a whopping six homers over that span.

SECOND BASE

Neil Walker, NYM vs. ARI ($4,600): D-backs starter Braden Shipley has given up a .421 wOBA to left-handed hitters that rises to .437 when facing them on the road. He's also given up a whopping 54.6 percent hard contact rate to them away from Chase Field, while the switch-hitting Walker has a .342 wOBA at Citi Field this season and 14 of his 20 homers against righty arms. He's been swinging a hot bat as well, hitting safely in nine of his last 10 games, including five with double-digit fantasy points.

THIRD BASE

Adrian Beltre, TEX vs. COL ($3,400): Beltre has 12 of his 17 homers on the season against right-handed pitching, along with a .351 wOBA at Globe Life Park. He's also hit safely in four straight, with multi-hit efforts in three of those contests. Rockies starter Chad Bettis has yielded a .354 wOBA, 36.1 percent hard contact rate and 12 of the 16 homers this season to righty bats, with eight of those round-trippers actually coming away from Coors Field.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS vs. NYY ($3,800): Some recent struggles have brought Bogaerts' price to the lowest it's been in quite a while, making it a prudent time to capitalize, particularly at Fenway. He has a .389 wOBA at home, including .364 against righties, and he has also hit 11 of his 14 homers on the season against that handedness. Meanwhile, Yankees starter Michael Pineda has yielded a .335 wOBA and 14 of his 21 homers on the season to right-handed hitters.

OUTFIELD

Hyun Soo Kim, BAL at OAK ($3,700): Kim serves as a second left-handed bat to attack A's starter Andrew Triggs with, while Kim has a whopping .385 wOBA against right-handed pitching overall, and an even better .391 figure when facing them away from Camden Yards, along with a 30 percent hard contact rate.

Carlos Beltran, TEX vs. COL ($3,800): Beltran has a .341 wOBA, .220 ISO and 15 homers against right-handed pitching this season, while also having hit safely in six of his last eight games. He's also slashed .310/.355/.517 since joining the Rangers, and is just getting acclimated to hitter-friendly Globe Life Park after playing eight of his first nine games on the road. He should certainly thrive in his new home park, and Rockies starter Chad Bettis could well be a facilitator of some fantasy production given his struggles against right-handed hitters.

Ian Desmond, TEX vs. COL ($4,200): Desmond makes for a great way to round out a three-player Rangers stack against Bettis, considering his .352 average and .410 wOBA at Globe Life Park, and .374 wOBA against righties there as well. He's also blasted 14 of his 20 homers against that handedness and has hit safely in four of his last five games.
