Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Yu Darvish, TEX vs. DET ($49): Darvish has been extremely consistent this season, scoring between 21 and 32 fantasy points in his eight starts. He's racked up 23 strikeouts over his last 19.1 innings, while allowing only five earned runs. The Tigers have been solid overall this season against righties, but they've struck out at a 21.6 percent clip against that handedness and have been slumping in recent games, generating just a .292 wOBA over the last seven days.

Chris Archer, TB at NYY ($40): Archer has looked much more like himself in the last four starts, giving up just seven earned runs in 26.1 innings while recording 32 strikeouts. The Yankees have the American's League's third-lowest wOBA (.304) against right-handed pitching, with a rising strikeout rate that now sits at 19.4 percent. Archer also handled this same team quite effectively in his only other 2016 encounter against them, scoring 26.4 fantasy points on the strength of an eight-inning, four-hit, one-earned run effort that also included seven strikeouts.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS vs. ARI ($15): Leon just keeps rolling along, but his price remains considerably affordable. He added another three hits, including two doubles, on Thursday, and scored double-digit fantasy points for the third time in the last five games. He's been particularly lethal at Fenway Park, where he's produced a .416 wOBA and 156 wRC+. Additionally, he also has a jaw-dropping .570 wOBA. 250 ISO and 267 wRC+ against lefties at home. Meanwhile, D-backs starter Patrick Corbin sets up as a tantalizing target, having allowed a .363 wOBA, 38.8 percent hard contact rate and 15 homers on the season to right-handed hitters.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL at SF ($8) Davis is just $1 away from minimum and simply carries too much upside to pass up at this price. He also draws what could be a favorable matchup in Giants starter Matt Cain, who's given up a .386 wOBA to left-handed hitters. Davis sports a .328 wOBA and .224 ISO against righty arms, with those numbers rising to .349 and .261, respectively, when facing them away from Camden Yards. While Cain has pitched shutout ball over his last 10 innings (two starts), both against the Nationals, he'd given up 12 earned runs over the 11.1 innings in his three prior appearances and still sports a 5.16 ERA and 1.51 WHIP on the season.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA at OAK ($13): This one is a bit of a contrarian move despite Sean Manaea's overall struggles, as he's actually been extremely tough against left-handed hitters, particularly at home. However, Cano is underpriced and hasn't been too affected by lefty-on-lefty matchups this season. He sports a .329 wOBA against southpaws that rises to .365 (along with a 32.1 percent hard contact rate) when he faces them on the road. He also is swinging a hot bat, having hit .500 (5-for-10) over the last two games with a double and homer, scoring double-digit fantasy points in both.

THIRD BASE

Alex Bregman, HOU at TOR ($7): After a rough start at the big league level, Bregman has hit safely in six straight games, with four doubles, four RBI and six runs over that span. He's at minimum price and draws the erratic Francisco Liriano at hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. The veteran southpaw has given up a .360 wOBA, 16 homers and a 34 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the season, and is still sporting a bloated 1.61 WHIP and 5.34 ERA as well.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU at TOR ($19): Following the same logic of targeting Liriano in a hitters' park, we certainly want Correa in the lineup, particularly considering he's homered in three consecutive games. He's also hit safely in seven straight and has a .339 wOBA and impressive 43.6 percent hard contact rate against southpaws on the road this season.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA at OAK ($19): While A's starter Sean Manaea has been tough on lefty bats, it's a completely different story against right-handed hitting. He's yielded a .357 wOBA and 14 homers to righty hitters, along with a 34.4 percent hard contact rate. That makes him an ideal target for a lethal lefty masher like Cruz, who has a .426 wOBA and .362 ISO against southpaws, with those stellar numbers actually paling in comparison to what he's managed against them on the road. Cruz's tally against left-handers away from Safeco Field consists of a .517 wOBA, .522 ISO, 41.2 percent hard contact rate, 50 percent HR/FB rate and 11 homers.

Charlie Blackmon, COL at PHI ($20): The Phillies will roll out rookie Jake Thompson, who had a rough introduction to the big leagues against the Padres in his first start, allowing six earned runs over 4.1 innings. Things aren't likely to get easier against the Rockies, particularly with potent lefty hitters like Blackmon, who has a .368 wOBA, 11 homers and a 38.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters. He also has five double-digit fantasy point outings over his last seven games, including a 4-for-6 effort Thursday that included a double, a homer and two RBI, netting a whopping 26 fantasy points.

Nomar Mazara, TEX vs. DET ($10): Mazara is nicely underpriced for a matchup against the Tigers' Anibal Sanchez, who despite solid efforts in his last pair of starts, yields a .347 wOBA to lefty bats and a .391 wOBA overall on the road. Mazara complements those numbers nicely with a .353 wOBA against right-handed pitching, and he has also hit safely in nine of his last 10 games.
