DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Tanner Roark, WAS vs. ATL, ($9,800): Although the Braves have been much better at the plate in recent games, they're still the team that's only generated a .295 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season. Roark has tallied 18.9 to 24.4 fantasy points in his last three starts, as well as 27.8 fantasy points in another over his last five. He stymied this same Braves squad in his only other meeting against them this season, firing seven scoreless innings against them back on Apr. 13. Roark boasts a solid 2.54 ERA at home this season, and a stellar 1.82 figure (along with a 5-2 record) in day games.

Michael Fulmer, DET at TEX ($8,000): Fulmer's body of work this season makes him a viable play in virtually any setting, including hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. He's been solid on the road, with a 2.85 ERA and .289 wOBA, and he has a 2.13 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over his last 10 starts. Fulmer has also flashed a ceiling of 38 fantasy points and is at one of his lowest prices of the season.

CATCHER

Buster Posey, SF vs. BAL ($4,400): Orioles starter Wade Miley remains highly susceptible to righty bats, and Posey has a .382 wOBA, .214 ISO and 37.8 percent hard contact rate against southpaws, rendering him a highly appealing option Sunday. Miley has yielded a .348 wOBA and 16 of his 19 homers on the season to righty bats, while Posey has a massive .400 wOBA and .286 ISO when facing left-handed pitching at home.

FIRST BASE

Kendrys Morales, KC at MIN ($4,200) Twins starter Hector Santiago has given up 19 of his 23 homers on the season to right-handed hitters, and nine runs (eight earned) over his last two starts. The switch-hitting Morales boasts a .358 wOBA against southpaws overall, and a .388 wOBA, six homers and a 33.3 percent HR/FB rate when facing them on the road this year.

SECOND BASE

Trea Turner, WAS vs. ATL ($4,700): Turner put together another stellar performance Saturday, going 3-for-5 with a triple and a home run. He also started August with four straight games with double-digit fantasy points and brings a .372 wOBA against right-handed pitching into Sunday. Meanwhile, Braves starter Tyrell Jenkins has given up a .362 wOBA to right-handed hitters that rises to a whopping .451 when facing them on the road, where they've also made hard contact against him at a 39.1 percent rate.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC vs. STL ($5,100): Bryant makes for a terrific target against Cardinals starter Mike Leake, considering he has allowed a .375 wOBA and 40 percent hard contact rate against right-handed hitters on the road. Meanwhile, the Cubs slugger has a .378 wOBA, .235 ISO, 41.6 percent hard contact rate and 17 homers against right-handed pitching, while also hitting safely in eight of his last nine games.

SHORTSTOP

J.J. Hardy, BAL at SF ($2,400): Hardy's price is considerably depressed, making him an interesting tournament flyer at near minimum price. The Orioles shortstop has a .327 wOBA and 36.1 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitchers away from Camden Yards, and he has hit safely in eight of his last nine games. While the matchup against Giants starter Johnny Cueto is no picnic, Hardy's price ensures minimal risk.

OUTFIELD

Adam Duvall, CIN at MIL ($4,800): Duvall serves as a terrific tournament play against Brewers starter Wily Peralta, who's given up a .432 wOBA, 22.6 percent HR/FB rate and 33.6 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters this season. Duvall boasts a .352 wOBA, .300 ISO and 36.5 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching, and a jaw-dropping .500/.556/1.125 line over 16 at-bats in Miller Park this season that includes three homers and eight RBI. While Peralta did pitch surprisingly well against the Braves in his return to the majors last Tuesday, his body of work at both the big league and Triple-A levels this season suggest that a regression is highly likely.

George Springer, HOU at TOR ($3,800): Springer has been wielding one of the hottest bats in baseball, having reached base safely in his last seven games, with five doubles, a homer and eight RBI over that span. He also has a .334 wOBA against right-handed pitching, along with a 31 percent hard contact rate against them on the road. With double-digit fantasy points in four of his last five games, he brings solid upside to hitter-friendly Rogers Centre against a very hittable Marcus Stroman.

Alton Altherr, PHI vs. COL ($2,800): Altherr's price somehow remains under $3K despite the fact that he's scored double-digit fantasy points in three of his last four games. He has a .388 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard contact rate at home, while Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood has yielded a .340 wOBA over his first two starts in August.
