FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Robbie Ray, ARI vs NYM ($7,800): It's always risky taking a pitcher at Chase Field but Ray has been too good lately to ignore. He's scored at least 27 fantasy points in each of his last 10 starts, including games of 54 and 47. The key with Ray has been the ridiculous uptick in strikeouts, as he has 90 in his last 71 innings (12 starts). He now gets a Mets team that has the ninth-worst wOBA against lefties (.311) and strikes out the 12th most (22.1 percent). Arizona has opened as a slight favorite (-130), suggesting Ray has a decent shot at the win.

CATCHER

Jonathan Lucroy, TEX vs OAK ($3,500): This isn't exactly a value, though there are three other players at the position that are at this price or more, plus it's a smaller slate of games. The Rangers have a high run total facing Ross Detwiler, who should get lit up pitching in Texas. Lucroy as crushed it since his trade and has a career .361 wOBA against left-handed pitching. He has also been hot over the last month, with a .946 OPS fueled by eight home runs. Don't be afraid to stack Rangers in any format tonight.

FIRST BASE

David Freese, PIT at SF ($3,000): Freese has been excellent against left-handed pitchers this season, sporting a .441 wOBA against them. The Pirates typically hit him in the cleanup spot against lefties (as they did against Bret Anderson), a great spot for RBI opportunities. Matt Moore has struggled more against right-handed hitters this season, giving up a .313 wOBA and 17 home runs in 109.1 innings. Look at Freese's teammate Jordy Mercer as well.

SECOND BASE

Nick Franklin, TB vs SD ($2,300): The Rays seem to always find catchers and middle infielders and make them into fantasy-worthy options. Franklin is a true value given his price and Luis Perdomo is a good pitcher to look for hitters against. Franklin has a .790 OPS against right-handed pitchers and an .817 OPS at home, and after given a few days off he went 3-for-5 Sunday with two doubles and a home run.

THIRD BASE

Danny Valencia, OAK at TEX ($3,000): Valencia is almost a must-play whenever he faces a southpaw but there are a couple of other factors working in his favor: he'll move out of the pitcher-friendly confines in Oakland and moves to one of the best hitters' parks during this time of the summer in Arlington. He'll also face off against lefty Martin Perez, who has allowed a .342 wOBA to righties this season, while Valencia has gone 5-for-13 against him, including a home run.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs TOR ($2,900): Joe Girardi has been playing around with the lineup and Gregorius has hit in the three-hole and cleanup spot over his last two games. His price doesn't accurately represent what he's done this season given that he's batting .289 with 15 homers at a position thin for fantasy production. He now gets R.A. Dickey, who has given up a .349 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season and Yankee Stadium plays as one of the best offensive parks to lefties.

OUTFIELD

Khris Davis, OAK at TEX ($3,400): Davis is an incredibly streaky hitter and now has a home run in three straight games. Like Valencia, he'll move into a great hitters' park and has a favorable history against Martin Perez, going 5-for-7 against him with two doubles and a home run. Look for Davis to hit right behind Valencia in the cleanup spot, and pairing the two in cash or GPPs is worth consideration. Teammate Marcus Semien should also get a look, as he has a .391 wOBA against lefties this season.

Ryan Rua, TEX vs OAK ($2,800): With all of the offensive firepower the Rangers' offense now has, it's easy to forget about Rua, who has a .361 wOBA this year and gets that great matchup against Ross Detwiler. For his career, Detwiler has given up a .352 wOBA to right-handed hitters and the ballpark in Arlington can be a killer to a pitcher's ERA. Note that teammate Ian Desmond has a whopping .485 wOBA at home against left-handed pitching.

Aaron Judge, NYY vs TOR ($2,700): The case against R.A. Dickey has already been made and this is simply a case of playing the hot hand in a favorable hitters' park. Judge has opened his Major League career with home runs in two consecutive games and has a legitimate shot at three in a row tonight. What those basic stats aren't telling you is that Judge is a beast at 6-foot-7, 255 pounds, and had 19 home runs at Triple-A Scranton (International League, not the PCL) before his call-up. He's considered an elite prospect and, along with Gary Sanchez, gives the Yankees a bright future.
