DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jon Lester, CHC vs. MIL ($11,200): There is always a concern that teams will look to exploit Lester's inability to hold runners, but the Brewers may not be on base enough to force the issue. The Crew are a bottom-10 team on the road according to wOBA, and rank last in runs above average against the cutter, a pitch Lester throws a quarter of the time.

Kyle Gibson, MIN at ATL ($4,900): Gibson's 5.09 ERA will likely keep him off most radars, but his ground ball profile matches up well against the Braves, as they have the third-lowest fly ball percentage in the league. They also have the lowest runs above average score against the slider, which Gibson turns to more than 22 percent of the time.

CATCHER

Cameron Rupp, PHI vs. LAD ($4,200): Rupp has put the hammer to lefties this season, notching a .321 ISO over 56 at-bats. This may not bode well for opposing starter Scott Kazmir, who has allowed 10 home runs to right-handed hitters in 37.2 innings away from Dodger Stadium.

FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt, ARI vs. NYM ($5,500): No member of the Diamondbacks will come cheaply, but they should be worth every penny against Jon Niese, who will be making a spot start after Logan Verrett was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Niese has allowed 19 homers to righties in 87 innings and hasn't started a game in over a month, which could lead to an early appearance from the bullpen. Goldschmidt has tallied a gaudy .483 OBP against lefties, along with a .242 ISO.

SECOND BASE

Ian Kinsler, DET vs. KC ($4,500): Kinsler has been better against lefties this season, but he should have a significant advantage against the ground ball tendencies of Yordano Ventura, as he puts the ball in the air at a 45 percent clip. Meanwhile, Ventura comes in carrying a 4.46 xFIP against righties.

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier, CWS at CLE ($3,500): One can't help but marvel at Frazier's 2016 season, as he has hit 31 homers and kept a .250 ISO while hitting just .210. That raw power could come into play against Carlos Carrasco, as Frazier has a 48 percent fly ball rate against the hurler's 48 percent ground ball rate.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS at BAL ($3,500): Bogaerts clocks in as a solid value play at this price, having amassed a .308/.360/.453 batting line with a .145 ISO against right-handed pitchers. Dylan Bundy has shown himself to be somewhat homer prone against righties this season, as evidenced by his 1.5 HR/9 over 30.1 innings.

OUTFIELD

Rickie Weeks Jr., ARI vs. NYM ($4,600): Weeks hasn't quite pulled himself back to fantasy relevance yet, but he has been useful against lefties, tallying a .383 OBP and a .288 ISO against them over 52 at-bats. It is also worth noting that Weeks rates three runs above average against the cutter, a pitch Niese throws more than 24 percent of the time.

Ian Desmond, TEX vs. OAK ($4,700):Sean Manaea has handled same-handed hitters quite well in his rookie season, but he has allowed a .502 slugging percentage against righties, as well as a nearly 35 percent hard contact rate. Desmond has scorched lefties to the tune of a .553 slugging percentage while also keeping a 4.7 runs above average mark against the changeup, a pitch Manaea uses at a 27 percent clip.

Franklin Gutierrez, SEA at LAA ($3,400): Gutierrez seems to remain cheap even when he faces a lefty, despite the fact that he has a .237 ISO against his opposite hand. Tyler Skaggs has allowed 11 runs in his last 10.1 innings, and may be feeling fatigue after spending more than a year on the disabled list following Tommy John surgery.

Other options: Max Kepler, MIN at ATL ($4,300); Lonnie Chisenhall, CLE vs. CWS ($4,300); Josh Reddick, LAD at PHI ($4,200)
