DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jose Fernandez, MIA at CIN ($11,900): Winless over his last three starts, Fernandez's salary has dropped into profit territory. Don't discount the ace, though. He went up against St. Louis, Chicago and San Francisco and still struck out 23 batters over 17 innings. Take the savings and run Thursday. Cincinnati owns a target-worthy .308 wOBA and 86 wRC+ against righty hurlers this season.

Reynaldo Lopez, WAS at ATL ($5,600):
The chance of poor weather is mitigated by the affordable salary and plus-matchup. Lopez limited the Braves to a single run over seven innings last time out, and while he only fanned two batters, he's shown the ability to punchout hitters in the minors with 122 strikeouts over 102.1 frames across two levels. Atlanta also owns the league-worst 81 wRC+ against right-handed arms this season.

CATCHER

Mike Zunino, SEA at LAA ($2,900): The backstop has been everything Seattle could have hoped for since being recalled in July (1.002 OPS), and he comes in at a bargain-bin price Thursday. Although it's somewhat of a small sample, it's tough to look past Zunino's .392 wOBA and 152 wRC+ against righties this season. Matt Shoemaker has also surrendered a .470 slugging percentage and a .340 wOBA to right-handed hitters the last two seasons.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, KC vs. MIN ($3,600): While it has been right-handed hitters who've teed off on Jose Berrios (.505 wOBA allowed), the rookie owns a 9.32 ERA for the campaign and surrendered a .347 wOBA to lefty bats. Plus, dating back to last season, Hosmer sports a .365 wOBA and 131wRC+ against righties. He's also underpriced because of his lackluster start to the second half.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA at LAA ($4,800): The veteran boasts a .211 ISO, a .370 wOBA and 138 wRC+ the last two seasons against right-handed hurlers, and Matt Shoemaker owns a 5.19 ERA through his past four starts. Cano also has a .543 slugging percentage in the last eight games.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI at SD ($5,000): Regardless of Paul Clemens reverse splits this season (left-handed hitters own a .296 wOBA against him), Lamb has owned right-handed arms with a .400 wOBA and 147 wRC+ this season. Mired in a 1-for-34 run at the dish, look for a breakout outing from Lamb.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager, LAD at PHI ($5,100): With a career .400 wOBA and 156 wRC+ against right-handed arms, Seager is a high-end target Thursday. Jared Eickhoff has also served up a .489 slugging percentage and .347 wOBA to left-handed hitters during his career.

OUTFIELD

Josh Reddick, LAD at PHI ($3,700): The newly minted Dodger helps offset the price of Seager, and the duo make a nice stack option against Jared Eickhoff. Reddick's past his 2-for-27 start with Los Angeles after posting three multi-hit games in his past six outings, and he owns a .363 wOBA and 132 wRC+ against righties this year.

Lorenzo Cain, KC vs. MIN ($3,600):
As mentioned, Jose Berrios has been hammered by right-handed hitters (.505 wOBA allowed), and Cain is 8-for-15 over his past four games. At the salary, look past Cain's struggles against right-handed arms this season (.278 wOBA), and hope he checks in with a low ownership.

Kole Calhoun, LAA vs. SEA ($3,200):
A high-floor, high-ceiling source of cap relief Thursday, Calhoun has a respectable .331 wOBA and 112 wRC+ against righties this season and hits in front of the two best hitters on the team.
