DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Jon Lester, CHC at LAD ($11,500): As was aptly demonstrated by the Giants' Matt Moore last Thursday, the Dodgers can be quite inept against left-handed pitching, as they've allowed a .287 wOBA and posted a 21.2 percent strikeout rate. Lester has also scored between 17.9 and 28.2 fantasy points in his last four starts, with three victories and 29 strikeouts over that span. He easily disposed of this same squad back on June 1 as well, posting a complete-game, 10-strikeout effort.

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS vs. KC ($6,400): Rodriguez scored 23.4 and 21.8 fantasy points in his last two starts before a brief DL stint with a hamstring injury. He's been solid at Fenway Park in three of his last four starts as well, scoring between 17.9 and 23.4 fantasy points in those outings. The Royals have also struggled on the road this season, with their .290 wOBA and .128 ISO away from home both the worst in the majors. While they've usually been a stay-away offense with respect to fantasy targeting in recent seasons, this current Royals squad doesn't have the same firepower, making Rodriguez a decent cost-conscious tournament option.

CATCHER

Wilson Ramos, WAS vs. COL ($3,800): Ramos draws a favorable matchup against Rockies starter Chad Bettis, who's given up 13 homers and a .353 wOBA to right-handed hitters this year. Bettis has also struggled over his last four starts, allowing a .407 wOBA, while posting a 6.16 ERA and 5.93 xFIP. Meanwhile, Ramos has a .372 wOBA against right-handed pitching at Nationals Park this season, along with a 19.4 percent HR/FB rate and 36.1 percent hard contact rate.

FIRST BASE

Joey Votto, CIN at ARI ($5,000): D-backs starter Archie Bradley has given up a massive .411 wOBA to left-handed hitters at Chase Field, along with a bloated 2.33 HR/9 and 41.9 percent hard contact rate. Especially relevant in Votto's case is Bradley's jaw-dropping 6.52 BB/9 rate at home against lefty hitters, a number that is countered by Votto's 20.3 percent walk rate against right-handed pitching on the road. The Reds first baseman also boasts a .429 wOBA, .219 ISO and 40.8 percent hard contact rate against righty arms outside of Great American Ballpark, and he has been wielding a hot bat this month, producing a .418 batting average, .462 wOBA and .633 slugging percentage over his last 23 games.

SECOND BASE

Starlin Castro, NYY vs BAL ($3,300): Castro has a .358 wOBA and 33.8 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching at Yankee Stadium, and double-digit fantasy points in four of his last eight games. Orioles starter Kevin Gausman has given up a bloated .398 wOBA, 2.39 HR/9 rate and 25.6 percent HR/FB rate to righty hitters on the road, making him a target for the cost-effective Castro.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SD at MIA ($3,600): Solarte will get to take some hacks against Marlins spot starter Justin Nicolino, who's given up a .384 wOBA to right-handed hitters, and a 6.48 xFIP to them at Marlins Park. Meanwhile, Solarte has enjoyed his encounters with southpaws outside of spacious Petco Park this season, posting a .379 wOBA, .250 ISO and 36.7 percent hard contact rate over 38 plate appearances. With double-digit fantasy upside and a sub-$4K price, Solarte offers solid value in a tantalizing matchup.

SHORTSTOP

Jorge Polanco, MIN at TOR ($3,300): The switch-hitting Polanco offers some nice value against Blue Jays starter R.A. Dickey, who's surrendered a whopping .394 wOBA, a 2.57 HR/9 rate, 5.13 xFIP and 23.3 percent HR/FB rate to lefty bats at Rogers Centre. Polanco boasts a .381 wOBA against right-handed pitching outside of Target Field and has also hit safely in nine of his last 10 games.

OUTFIELD

Nelson Cruz, SEA at CWS ($4,600): Cruz is always in play against lefties, considering the .403 wOBA, .327 ISO, 14 homers and 37.5 percent hard contact rate he's posted against them this season. White Sox starter Carlos Rodon has admittedly been very solid over his last four starts, but he has yielded a .342 wOBA to right-handed hitters at U.S. Cellular Field, and given up 16 of his 17 homers on the season to that handedness as well.

Carlos Gonzalez, COL at WAS ($4,500): Gonzalez will take aim at Nationals rookie spot starter Lucas Giolito, who's had trouble against both handedness of hitter in his brief major league career. Gonzalez has a .391 wOBA, .228 ISO and 34.7 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching and could be in a prime position to take advantage of the rookie's inexperience.

Michael Saunders, TOR vs. MIN ($3,900): Saunders serves as a cost-effective, high-upside option against Twins starter Kyle Gibson, who has allowed a .425 wOBA, .607 slugging percentage and 2.29 HR/9 rate yielded to them away from Target Field. Saunders has a .392 wOBA, .244 ISO, 21.9 percent HR/FB rate and 38.5 percent hard contact rate at Rogers Centre against righty arms, making him an ideal tournament option.
