FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Dan Straily, CIN at LAA ($7,300): Straily has been incredibly consistent over the last month, and he's been a little under the radar in DFS considering how well he's done. He's scored at least 40 fantasy points in five of his last seven starts and scored 24 and 36 points in the other two games. Over his last six appearances he has a 2.19 ERA backed by a 0.92 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 37 innings. The Angels are in the bottom-third of the league in wOBA against right-handed pitching and have the fifth worst ISO (.139).

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK at HOU ($2,600): Vogt moves into a more hitter-friendly environment in Houston and is coming off a four RBI game that included a three-run homer. His .321 wOBA isn't bad for a catcher, and he'll face off against Joe Musgrove, who has given up 13 earned runs (four home runs) over his last two starts (9.1 innings). Musgrove has also allowed a .380 wOBA to left-handed hitters at the big league level this season.

FIRST BASE

Xavier Scruggs, MIA at NYM ($2,000): Scruggs is the ultimate punt given that he's at the minimum price and would easily allow Jose Fernandez to anchor your roster. He's hit nicely since being promoted, batting .304 and usually hitting in the fifth spot for the Marlins. While he's not a huge prospect at 28 years old, he posted a .973 OPS at Triple-A this season with 21 home runs. Rafael Montero is a good matchup for Scruggs, as he's struggled at Triple-A Las Vegas and in a short stint with the Mets.

SECOND BASE

Brandon Phillips, CIN at LAA ($2,600): Phillips has come alive over the last month with an .890 OPS over his last 30 games, as well as swiping four bases. After going 3-for-4 on Saturday, Phillips followed that up with a solo home run against Archie Griffin on Sunday. Matt Shoemaker has been hittable over the last month and hasn't struck out more than five batters in any of his last seven starts. He's also given up a .332 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.

THIRD BASE

Trevor Plouffe, MIN at CLE ($2,900): Plouffe has been a hot, posting an .869 OPS over the last 14 games. He's been hitting in the cleanup spot behind Max Kepler and has multi-hit games in six of his last 12. The matchup against Trevor Bauer is good considering he has a 4.63 ERA over his last six starts and was lit up for seven earned runs in only 2.2 innings the last time out against the Twins.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Anderson, CHW at DET, ($2,600): Anderson has adjusted nicely to the pitching in the majors (.285 batting average), though his walk rate could use a little work. He's seeing the ball very well over the last week, posting an OPS over 1.000, and he has hit lefties better than right-handed pitching. Anderson has a .383 wOBA against left-handed pitching and gets Matt Boyd, whose wOBA is 65 points higher against right-handed batters than lefties.

OUTFIELD

Justin Upton, DET vs CHW ($3,000): Upton has multi-hit games in five of his last eight, including four home runs. The matchup doesn't get much better against James Shields, who has given up a .391 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season and has given up 31 earned runs (11 HRs) over his last five starts (20 innings). Even in cash games it's not a bad idea to stack Tigers.

Brandon Guyer, CLE vs MIN ($2,900): Guyer is a cheap way to get part of the Indians, who have scored the third-most runs at home this season. He he has a whopping .419 wOBA against southpaws this season and gets a good matchup against Hector Santiago, who is coming off a thumb injury and has given up a .344 wOBA to right-handed batters this season.

Eddie Rosario, MIN at CLE ($2,900): Rosario has gone 4-for-11 over his last three games, with three runs scored and two RBI. He also has some positive history against Trevor Bauer, going 8-for-16 with a home run. Bauer's worst splits on the season have come at home against left-handed hitters, to whom he's giving up a .337 wOBA.
