FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Thursday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Ervin Santana, MIN vs. CWS ($7,700): With only four games on the slate, we don't have a wide variety of pitching options, leaving Santana as the only legitimate value play. After a rough start to the season, Big Erv has pitched well - 2.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 14.4 percent K-BB rate in last 12 starts - and faces a White Sox offense that's sporting a pathetic .305 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.

CATCHER

Willson Contreras, CHC vs. SFG ($2,900): After a disappointing July, Contreras seems to have found his stroke again with an impressive .368 wONA and .217 ISO since Aug. 1. However, despite the rookie's talent and hot bat, he's still priced surprisingly cheap and faces a hittable Jeff Samardzija.

FIRST BASE

Kennys Vargas, MIN vs. CHW ($3,300): Vargas crushes left-handed pitching. Lefties have nightmares about facing Vargas; that's how much he owns them (.721 wOBA, .706 ISO). And while Jose Quintana is a good lefty, Vargas's splits and price make him a must-play, especially with such a light slate of games.

SECOND BASE

Ryan Schimpf, SDG at ATL ($3,000): Schimpf continues to be a beast against right-handed pitching (.405 wOBA, .377 ISO), yet also continues to be priced exceedingly reasonably. Add in a matchup with Mike Foltynewicz (.349 wOBA allowed to left-handed bats) and the dearth of options, and Schimpf leaps off the page as the clear value at second base.

THIRD BASE

Yangervis Solarte, SDG at ATL ($2,800): Let's stick in Atlanta, as taking left-handed sticks against Folty is never a bad idea. For his part, Solarte has hit well from the left side of the plate (.337 wOBA, .171 ISO) and is priced dirt cheap.

SHORTSTOP

Javier Baez, CHC vs. SFG ($2,800): This is simply a case of a player being priced too low considering his production, talent and the limited number of games Thursday. Baez is batting in a stacked Cubs lineup, has been consistently productive for months now (.334wOBA, .187 ISO since June 1) and faces aforementioned Samardzija.

OUTFIELD

Christian Yelich, MIA at NYM ($3,500): Yelich has been terrific over the second half of the season, even finally starting to show some power (.215 ISO in August). The 24-year-old has been particularly dangerous against right-handed pitching (.312 batting average, .397 wOBA, .222 ISO); and while the matchup with Jacob deGrom isn't ideal, the right-hander has struggled lately (4.45 ERA in August), making Yelich the perfect low-floor, high-ceiling play.

Curtis Granderson, NYM vs. MIA ($3,200): Granderson has been a disappointment for much of the season, but is hitting the ball well -- .374 wOBA, .438 ISO in last 10 games -- and has been especially strong against right-handed pitching. The 35-year-old is priced affordably and faces Jose Urena and his .360 wOBA allowed to left-handed sticks.

Ender Inciarte, ATL vs. SDP ($2,700): Similar to Granderson, Inciarte seems to have found his groove and is having a terrific August (.403 wOBA, .161); however, Inciarte is still priced incredibly cheap. Add in a matchup with the eminently hittable Jarred Cosart, and Inciarte is a no brainer play who will allow you to pay up at the other positions.
