Yahoo DFS Baseball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

PITCHER

Kyle Hendricks, CHC at MIL ($52): Despite the considerable talent of his rotation mates, Hendricks is the one leading the majors with a sparkling 2.09 ERA. He's been outstanding in recent starts, scoring between 28 and 35 fantasy points in five of his last six trips to the mound. The Brewers have also struck out at a 25.7 percent rate against right-handed pitching while amassing a mediocre .309 wOBA. Hendricks has flashed a double-digit strikeout ceiling this season and has the potential for another nice haul in the category Monday.

Drew Pomeranz, BOS at SD ($47): Pomeranz gets a crack at his old team, which sports a 24.1 percent strikeout rate and .304 wOBA at home, and strikes out at a 25.1 percent clip versus southpaws. Besides the intangible of facing his former teammates, Pomeranz has also started to hit his stride in the American League, scoring between 23 and 28 fantasy points in three of his last four starts.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC at MIN ($10): The price is right on Perez for his matchup against Twins rookie starter Jose Berrios, who has allowed a .471 wOBA, 3.32 HR/9 and 6.45 xFIP to right-handed hitters this year. He's also given up a 40.3 percent hard contact rate and 24.1 percent HR/FB rate to that handedness, while Perez has a 36.9 percent hard contact rate against righty arms on the road.

FIRST BASE

Eric Hosmer, KC at MIN ($14) Hosmer is a cost-effective way to target Berrios from the other side of the plate, considering the Twins starter has yielded a .461 wOBA, 6.80 xFIP and 40.7 percent hard contact rate to lefty bats at Target Field. Hosmer counters with a .349 wOBA and 37.4 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching, and double-digit fantasy points in three of his past four games.

SECOND BASE

Dustin Pedroia, BOS at SD ($20): You'd be hard-pressed to find a hotter bat than Pedroia, who has an 11-game hitting streak, four straight multi-hit games and a pair of four-hit efforts in his last 10. Padres starter Edwin Jackson makes for an inviting target, as he's yielded a .371 wOBA, 5.61 xFIP and 35 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters. Pedroia brings a .368 wOBA against right-handed pitching to the table, along with a 35.4 percent hard contact rate against that handedness away from Fenway.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. HOU ($18): Ramirez has been an outstanding cash game play, but he certainly makes for an excellent tournament option against Astros starter Mike Fiers, who's given up a .381 wOBA, seven homers and a 36.9 percent hard contact rate to right-handed hitters on the road. He's also yielded a 5.57 ERA and .372 wOBA over 63 innings away from Minute Maid Park this season, while Ramirez has a .396 wOBA, 149 wRC+ and .519 slugging percentage against righty arms at home.

SHORTSTOP

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. LAA ($10): Semien's bat carries some considerable pop and Angels starter Jered Weaver is highly susceptible to the long ball, making the A's shortstop a bargain-priced tournament play Monday. Weaver has surrendered a whopping 32 homers on the season, with 18 coming at the hands of right-handed hitters. He's also given up an astronomical .411 wOBA and nine homers to righty bats on the road, along with a 2.17 HR/9, 6.22 xFIP and 42.5 percent hard contact rate.

OUTFIELD

Bryce Harper, WAS vs. ATL ($22): Braves starter Ryan Weber has yielded a .460 wOBA to left-handed hitters over a 47-batter sample, making Harper a worthy tournament option. The Nationals slugger has had a somewhat disappointing season at the plate, but still boasts a .372 wOBA, .215 ISO and 17 of his 23 homers on the season against right-handed pitching.

Khris Davis, OAK vs. LAA ($19): Davis represents another viable bat against Jered Weaver and his low-80s fastball. The A's slugger has a .336 wOBA and .305 ISO against right-handed pitching at home, along with a 23.6 percent HR/FB rate and 39.8 percent hard contact rate. He also boasts a robust 49.1 percent fly ball rate at home, and Weaver plays right into his hands by allowing righty bats to put the ball in the air 51.5 percent of the time.

Christian Yelich, MIA vs. PHI ($20): Yelich makes for an appealing DFS dance partner with Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff, who's given up a .372 wOBA, eight homers and a 5.19 xFIP to left-handed hitters on the road. Yelich just happens to decimate right-handed pitching at Marlins Park, where he's tallied a .387 wOBA, 21.9 percent HR/FB rate and 37 percent hard contact rate against that handedness. He's also blasted 17 of his 18 homers on the season against righty arms, while 14 of the 22 homers that Eickhoff has given up have come from lefties.
