DraftKings MLB: Thursday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Alex Cobb, TB at NYY ($6,500): Following a sweep of the Blue Jays, look for New York to be ripe for a letdown. Cobb is making just his second start of the season, but he did fan seven batters over five frames in his first outing. He also has a 22.7 strikeout percentage dating back to 2013.

Jeff Hoffman, COL at SD ($5,300): Another low-priced flier, Hoffman is making his fourth career start and looking to reverse his early struggles (6.60 ERA). However, he's drawn the Cubs, Nationals and Dodgers, but now he faces the worst offense against right-handed hurlers this season. San Diego has a league-worst .289 wOBA and 80 wRC+. Additionally, Hoffman posted a 24.2 strikeout percentage in Triple-A this season.

CATCHER

Chris Iannetta, SEA vs. TEX ($2,600): Over the past two seasons, Iannetta has a .335 wOBA against left-handed hurlers, while opposing starter Derek Holland has served up a .333 wOBA to right-handed hitters. If Mike Zunino ($2,900) starts, he's a viable pivot given his .362 wOBA against lefties this year.

FIRST BASE

Josh Bell, PIT vs. CIN ($2,500):Dan Straily has allowed a .306 wOBA to left-handed hitters this season, so it isn't a glowing matchup. Still, in Bell's brief stint thus far, he has proven matchup proof with a .399 wOBA and 154 wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.

SECOND BASE

Cesar Hernandez, PHI at WAS ($3,500): With a solid .352 on-base percentage and .330 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season, Hernandez is a solid value play with stolen base upside. A.J. Cole has made just four career starts and boasts a target-worthy 4.57 FIP.

THIRD BASE

Evan Longoria, TB at NYY ($4,200): Checking out as one of the best values in the player pool, Longoria has a .361 wOBA and 133 wRC+ against southpaws over the past three years. He also sits pretty against CC Sabathia, who has surrendered a .354 wOBA to right-handed hitters during the same timeframe.

SHORTSTOP

Jose Peraza, CIN at PIT ($3,500): Scorching hot, Peraza has a .500 on-base percentage and .629 slugging percentage since the beginning of August, including an active 11-for-21 run at the plate over his past five games. He's also posted a .342 wOBA against right-handed arms this season and has stolen base upside.

OUTFIELD

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. CIN ($3,900): While McCutchen's struggles this season are concerning in all fantasy formats, they're baked into this salary. He's posted a .360 wOBA over the past 30 days, too. Plus, over the past four years, his .374 wOBA and 141 wRC+ against righty arms is impressive. Roll the dice on the fallen star at the discounted price of admission.

Nomar Mazara, TEX at SEA ($3,700): The rookie has an affordable salary and a .347 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season with a solid matchup, as opposing starter Taijuan Walker has allowed a .497 slugging percentage to left-handed batters.

Carlos Gomez, TEX at SEA ($3,100): Gomez has a .353 on-base percentage since joining the Rangers with seven runs, four extra-base hits, nine RBI and three stolen bases in just 51 plate appearances. His ceiling is high, and his price is low. Taijuan Walker also has a 9.55 ERA over his past five outings.
