FanDuel MLB: Saturday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Adam Wainwright, STL vs. MIL ($8,500): Wainwright isn't what he once was, but his current form has still proven to be more than enough to stifle the pathetic Brewers lineup. In two starts against Milwaukee this season, the three-time All Star has allowed just 12 baserunners and one run in 14 innings. Considering the last of those outings came less than two weeks ago, Wainwright is primed to keep that positive trend going. With nine other guys priced above him, it's tough to find better bang for the buck at the pitcher position.

CATCHER

Victor Martinez, DET vs. BAL ($3,600): Martinez's combination of batting eye, patience and power makes him a nightmare matchup for Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez, whose 4.80 BB/9 shows that he has been struggling to throw strikes all season. The switch-hitting slugger has had a stronger campaign batting left-handed, which further enhances his resume against a righty allowing a monstrous .405 wOBA to batters from that side. Martinez's combination of effectiveness and opportunity out of the cleanup spot for a potent Tigers offense is nearly unmatched.

FIRST BASE

Chris Davis, BAL at DET ($4,000): Davis was red-hot with two homers over a 6-for-10 stretch in three games prior to missing one with a hand injury, but he's back just in time to abuse Tigers pitching over the weekend. Detroit starter Jordan Zimmermann has a subpar 4.44 ERA, plus he will have to shake off some rust after not starting in over a month due to a neck injury. The powerful first baseman's .365 wOBA against righties will likely be on the rise against this opponent.

SECOND BASE

Robinson Cano, SEA at OAK ($3,700): Cano's .399 wOBA shows that he's always dangerous against righties, but he has been especially successful against Oakland starter Kendall Graveman. He's 6-for-11 with three doubles and a homer against the youngster and comes in hot after reaching safely in 16 of 17 games. The former Yankees second baseman is a terrific option to build your lineup around.

THIRD BASE

Jake Lamb, ARI vs. SFG ($2,900): Seeing Johnny Cueto on the mound for the opposition will scare some away from Lamb but his combination of affordability and success against righties (.382 wOBA) makes the Diamondbacks third baseman a strong choice nonetheless. Eighteen of his 27 homers have come at hitter-friendly Chase Field, plus Lamb's 4-for-11 career mark against Cueto shows that he's not intimidated by the upper-echelon starter. Get a leg up on the competition with this smart and contrarian choice.

SHORTSTOP

Troy Tulowitzki, TOR vs. BOS ($3,000): Tulowitzki is already a nice bargain at $3,000, but especially so against mediocre lefty Eduardo Rodriguez. The power-hitting shortstop has a .403 career wOBA in that split and Rodriguez's inability to win any of his last eight starts despite pitching in front of the best offense in baseball doesn't inspire much hope for his chances of limiting the former Rockies star. Look for Tulowitzki to keep the good times rolling after managing five hits in his last three games.

OUTFIELD

Marcell Ozuna, MIA vs. LOS ($2,700): Dodgers starter Rich Hill has been abnormally lucky in a small sample this season, but the low ERA next to the 36-year-old's name shouldn't scare anyone away from Ozuna. The slugging outfielder has amassed a .405 wOBA against left-handed pitching and that number jumps all the way to .452 at Marlins Park. Expect him to contribute in a big way as the fish close the 1.63-run gap between Hill's ERA and xFIP.

Jacoby Ellsbury, NYY vs. TB ($3,000): Ellsbury has always had success against Rays starter Chris Archer, with 18 hits in 31 career at-bats. New York's two-hole hitter has been heating up with two doubles and a homer among his six base knocks in the last four games and will be very comfortable in the batter's box facing a familiar opponent who is having a down season. The left-handed hitting Ellsbury already prefers to face righties, but this is a particularly strong matchup for him considering his .581 average here represents a career-high mark against any pitcher in at least 13 at-bats.

Andrew McCutchen, PIT vs. CIN ($3,300): Reds rookie Robert Stephenson has allowed a massive .377 wOBA to right-handed hitters despite being one himself, which is convenient for McCutchen since he also prefers this less intuitive split. While the center fielder is having a down season, he has picked it up of late by reaching safely in 15 of his last 16 games. Use this opportunity to take advantage of his strong form and vulnerable opponent without paying top dollar.
