FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Monday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Francisco Liriano, TOR at TAM ($7,200): Liriano is strictly a tournament play Monday given his inconsistencies, but he could flash the higher end of his ceiling against a Rays squad that's struck out at a 25.3 percent clip against southpaws this season. Tampa Bay also own the second-lowest home wOBA (.308) in the AL and sixth lowest in the majors. Liriano has demonstrated a 60-fantasy point ceiling this season and posted 39 fantasy points each in his most recent starts.

CATCHER

Sandy Leon, BOS vs. BAL ($2,800) : Leon is the first of two right-handed value plays that look particularly appealing against Orioles starter Wade Miley, who's given up a .363 wOBA and 21 homers to right-handed hitters this season. The switch-hitting Leon has been terrific from both side of the plate but particularly effective as a right-handed hitter at home. He's generated a .400 average, .482 wOBA and a .267 ISO against lefty arms, and an even better .488 wOBA when facing them at Fenway. He also comes in wielding a typically hot bat, having hit safely in eight of his last nine contests.

FIRST BASE

Kendrys Morales, KC vs. OAK ($3,000): Morales is an appealing value bat against A's starter Ross Detwiler, who's yielded a .369 wOBA and a 5.15 xFIP to right-handed hitters on the road. Meanwhile, the red-hot Morales sports a .362 wOBA, .214 ISO and 36.4 percent hard-contact rate against southpaws and has a .382 average, five homers, a .441 ISO, 237 wRC+ and .526 wOBA over his last nine games, along with double-digit fantasy points in six consecutive contests.

SECOND BASE

Dustin Pedroia, BOS vs. BAL ($3,500) : Speaking of red-hot value bats and the vulnerabilities of Wade Miley to right-handed hitters, Pedroia is an appealing value play Monday. He's tallied a .410 average, .411 wOBA and 38.9 percent hard-contact rate over his last nine games and also boasts double-digit fantasy points in four straight. He also has a .390 wOBA at Fenway Park and a massive .480 wOBA and 18.2 percent HR/FB rate when facing southpaws there.

THIRD BASE

Kyle Seager SEA at LAA ($3,400): Seager has blasted three homers in his last six games and has a .342 average, .442 wOBA, .289 ISO and whopping 55.2 percent hard-contact rate over his last 10 games. He's also smacked 17 homers off righties and boasts a .401 wOBA, .242 ISO and 39.5 percent hard-contact rate against that handedness, while Angels starter Ricky Nolasco has seen lefty bats make hard contact against him at a 33.2 percent clip this season.

SHORTSTOP

Andrelton Simmons, LAA vs. SEA ($2,200): Simmons uncharacteristically exploded for a pair of homers Sunday, providing an excellent return at a near-minimum price. He's a bargain once again Monday, and checks in with a .325 average and .355 wOBA against left-handed pitching at home. Meanwhile, Mariners starter Ariel Miranda has actually been more vulnerable to left-handed hitters, but has surrendered a .330 wOBA, 37.9 percent hard-contact rate and six of his seven homers on the season to righty hitters, along with a bloated 7.68 xFIP when facing them on the road.

OUTFIELD

Kole Calhoun, LAA vs. SEA ($3,400): Speaking of Miranda's reverse splits tendencies, Calhoun shapes up as an appealing option with which to exploit them. Miranda has given up a .405 wOBA to lefty bats that rises to .443 when facing them on the road, where they've also made hard contact against him at a bloated 54.6 percent clip. Calhoun has shown reverse splits tendencies at the plate himself, with a .345 wOBA and 33.3 percent hard-contact rate against southpaws.

Nick Markakis, ATL vs. MIA ($2,600)
: Markakis has nine of his 10 homers on the season against right-handed pitching, along with a .333 wOBA and 33.1 percent hard-contact rate. Meanwhile, Marlins starter Andrew Cashner has been knocked around by lefty bats to the tune of a .360 wOBA that rises to a whopping .422 when facing them on the road this season. His body of work against left-handed hitters outside of his respective home parks this season also includes a 6.28 xFIP, 1.85 HR/9 and 33.3 percent hard-contact rate surrendered.

Hunter Pence, SFG vs. SDP ($3,500)
: Padres starter Paul Clemens has struggled all season against right-handed hitters, yielding a .437 wOBA, nine homers and a 5.59 xFIP, along with a 45.2 percent hard-contact rate when facing them on the road. Pence counters with a .381 wOBA and 144 wRC+ against right-handed pitching at home, and a .385 average, three homers, a .488 wOBA and .333 ISO over his last 10 games.
