Yahoo DFS Baseball: Friday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Pitcher

Julio Teheran, ATL vs. SD ($49): There's no shortage of aces on the hill Friday, so saving as best you can to build a competitive offense would seem advantageous. Teheran has yet to allow a run in two starts while striking out 10 in 13.0 innings. The Padres have managed only 35 runs through 10 games entering Friday and have been even worse away from home, putting up 2.71 runs in seven road games, which included a stop in Coors Field.

Martin Perez, TEX at SEA ($27): I expect a relatively high ownership for Oakland's Kendall Graveman ($32), so Perez checks in as a contrarian play at a lower price. He's coming off of 5.1 shutout innings against the Angels and has faired well against the Mariners in his career, going 3-1 in six starts with a 3.60 ERA. Among Mariners' regulars, only Nelson Cruz and Robinson Cano owned wOBA over .330 or higher. Here's hoping he can match Mariners' ace Felix Hernandez.

Catcher

Travis d'Arnaud, NYM at MIA ($8): There may not be a better suited slate to completely punt the catcher position and spend freely elsewhere. d'Arnaud is looking more like the 2015 version that saw him post a .467 wOBA against lefties than last year's .216. He failed to have an extra-base hit in all of 2016 against southpaws, but already has three in seven at bats in 2017.

First Base

Chris Davis, BAL at TOR ($15): Davis posted a .264 ISO and .352 wOBA against righties last year. He's homered 10 times in 93 at bats in the last three seasons at Rogers Center and three times in 16 at bats against Friday starter Aaron Sanchez. Meanwhile, Sanchez allowed 11 long balls to lefties as opposed to four to righties last year, seemingly giving Davis a bit of upside.

Second Base

Jose Peraza, CIN vs. MIL ($13): Brewers starter Tommy Milone didn't make it past of the fourth inning in his first start, allowing four runs after posting a 5.71 ERA a season ago. He's surrendered a .362 wOBA to right handed hitters a year ago, while Peraza owned a .340 wOBA against lefties last year.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. CWS ($21): Most of this column has focused on value arms to afford bats, or value bats to afford all the aces on the bump Friday. Sano is simply seeing a big ball right now and should have great opportunity against Dylan Covey, who's making his first appearance above Double-A. Sano is showing greater patience, walking 21.6 percent of the time to date against 10.9 percent a year ago. It's resulted in him squaring up balls better and a 52.9 percent hard hit rate. His .330 wOBA against righties last year suggests a safe floor to boot.

Shortstop

Jorge Polanco, MIN vs. CWS ($13): The Twins-White Sox game has the highest total on the board at nine, and Polanco offers a cheap buy in that environment while hitting in the heart of the order. Polanco posted a respectable .316 wOBA against righties last year, striking out only 13.9 percent of the time while walking at a 7.2 percent clip. The only concern might be Sano hitting in front of him and taking away run producing opportunities.

Outfield

Avisail Garcia, CWS at MIN ($15): This game is worth exploiting with the highest total (9) on the board and features the least experienced pitching matchup with the previously mentioned Covey facing Adalberto Mejia, who allowed three runs in 1.2 innings in his first career start. Garcia has hit safely in every game this season and has a career .323 wOBA against lefties across 376 at bats.

Hunter Pence, SFG vs. COL ($15): Rockies' starter Tyler Anderson has allowed 10 runs in 10.1 innings thus far and allowed a .333 wOBA and 12 home runs to right handers over 86.2 innings last season. Pence hit seven homers in 117 at bats against south paws last year vs. six in 278 at bats against righties and has enjoyed a hot start to the season, slashing .308/.386/.487.

Jose Bautista, TOR vs. BAL ($14): Joey Bats is off to a slow start, but last year's .323 wOBA was his lowest against lefties since 2012. Friday starter Wade Miley allowed a .360 wOBA to right handers last season and 22 home runs in 129.2 innings. Bautista has only two extra base hits to date but has managed to score six runs in nine games. The power upside remains while his advanced stats suggest a better performance than his .156 batting average suggests.
