DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Noah Syndergaard, NYM at MIA ($11,400): Syndergaard has been nearly untouchable in his first two starts of the season, allowing just two runs (one earned) and striking out 16 batters in 13 innings. The Marlins notched just a .309 wOBA against righties last season, and were a bottom-10 team against the slider, a pitch Syndergaard regularly throws at a clip above 20 percent.

Julio Teheran, ATL vs. SD ($8,500): Teheran's peripherals through his first two starts tell us he may not hold a pristine ERA for long, but he should have more than enough in his arsenal to get by the Padres, who were the worst team in the league against righties in 2016 according to wOBA.

Catcher

Salvador Perez, KC vs. LAA ($3,400): Perez has always been a free swinger, but is an attractive option against a groundball pitcher like J.C. Ramirez, as he recorded a 47 percent flyball rate last season. Ramirez has never made a start in his professional career, and is being called into action after Garrett Richards left his last outing with a biceps strain. The Royals don't generally come to mind when DFS players consider stack opportunities, but we are almost certainly looking at a bullpen game started by a man who has a career 5.14 ERA as a reliever, so packing your lineup with blue jerseys may be a viable strategy.

First Base

Miguel Cabrera, DET at CLE ($4,700):Trevor Bauer's strikeout rate dropped more than eight percent against right-handed batters last season, contributing to a 4.45 xFIP. Cabrera will look to take advantage of Bauer's pitch repertoire, as he has steadily increased the usage of his curveball, a pitch Miggy tallied a 9.1 runs against average against last year.

Second Base

Jonathan Villar, MIL at CIN ($4,700):Scott Feldman pitched well in the spacious confines of Busch Stadium but allowed two home runs in his 2017 debut against the Phillies at home. Villar may find success against Feldman, as he tallied a RAA of 4.2 against the curveball last season, a pitch the right-hander threw a quarter of the time.

Third Base

Miguel Sano, MIN vs. CWS ($4,200):Dylan Covey doesn't seem like the kind of pitcher who should be making a major league start. He has consistently posted below average strikeout rates in the minors, and finished the 2016 season with 17 walks in 29.1 innings at Double-A Midland.

Shortstop

Marcus Semien, OAK vs. HOU ($3,200): Semien's career numbers improve across the board when facing left-handed pitching, including a jump of 52 points (.200) in ISO. Dallas Keuchel is one of the most ground-ball heavy pitchers in the league, which should provide some edge for Semien, as he posted a 43 percent flyball rate last year.

Outfield

Adam Duvall, CIN vs. MIL ($4,300):Tommy Milone joined the rotation after Junior Guerra was placed on the disabled list, but did not fair well in his first start against the Cubs, allowing four runs in as many innings. Milone surrendered a 34 percent hard contact rate against righties in 19 games (12 starts) for the Twins last season, while Duvall tallied a .246 ISO against the opposite hand.

Avisail Garcia, CWS at MIN ($3,900):Adalberto Mejia didn't leave much of an impression in the first start of his major league career, as he lasted just 1.2 innings against the White Sox last week. Garcia tripled in his only at-bat against Mejia in that contest, and may enjoy further success against the prospect, as he has tallied a robust 36 percent hard contact rate against lefty pitchers in 376 career at-bats.

Jose Bautista, TOR vs. BAL ($4,500): Bautista has struggled to open the 2017 season, but may be able to find his form against Wade Miley, who walked seven batters in his start against the Yankees. Bautista carried a 42 percent flyball rate last season, while Miley put the ball on the ground at a 47 percent clip.
